Default Small cam/S1 Heads/stock manifolds

Has anyone had any experience with a small cam and stage 1 heads without headers? I live in MI and have to drive my car all winter and I know headers will rust like a SOB from the salt spray. I know it will cost me HP, but how much? Will the ported heads help the cam out much without a better exhaust?

Don't drive your call all winter - get a $1000 wintermobile...

*shrug* don't sweat it. Get some stainless headers or get them coated or both!

I drive my car year-round too. I only had to drive my beater 2 times, the winter was so mild!

How small of a cam?
Without headers maybe cost ya 10-25 depending on which ones you would go with ie. shorties, mid-length, Long tubes.

My 218/224 114lsa cam, stock cats, stock manifolds, stage 1 heads made 362rwhp.

Added macs and removed cats, made 383rwhp.

Added 2001+ intake, made 405rwhp.

Added a cutout, made 415rwhp.

There ya go. All thats on an M6.

Thanks Jon...Exactly the reply I was looking for.
So you might as well give up 25 or so hp by not going with headers on a Stage I H/C/I package. The cam I was looking at was a 216 XE cam until my buddy offered me his B1 for a good price. So for a B1 cam/Stage I heads/and LS6 intake with stock manifolds with a cutout...you thinking somewhere around 375 rwhp?

It is a bad thing to expect certain numbers from the setup you are going with. If the numbers are less you will be disappointed. More than likely you will get headers down the road, plus other stuff. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If you want to pick up some of that lost HP, go with 3" true duals off your stock manifolds. Then you can still have the fronts reworked later when you get headers. Dont forget the X pipe. You will pick up great gains, esp with the cam & heads. I can get you a great deal on the duals, & I'm only 20 min away. If you want to check out my setup, shoot me an email. I get to Flint pretty regular. The car wont be out for at least another week though. Later
