ARE Motor is in!

My stock cube ARE motor with S2 heads, 226 114 XE-R cam, grot headers & SVO injectors are in and life is good at the moment.

After a few heat cycles and 150 miles of break-in driving, I've started to do a street tuning. It's been a blast raising the shift points to hit 6800 in second gear. First gear is a guess; no traction. The car feels very strong, but my SOTP meter isn't all that accurate after no WOT runs for a couple months, so we'll set that aside; I'll have track times next weekend.
I have my idle now set 900 rpm (the same speed I used for my 218/218 cam) and it is pretty smooth, with only very little lope. My IAC count is still high, so I just need a minor adjustment to the TB idle set screw and I'll be all set. At 1000 rpm in park, the idle is smooth enough that I could pass the car off as having a stock cam to most people.
I've used LS1 edit to set my injectors and dialed in my LTRIMs using the MAF setting (-5% adjustment). I'm running the LTRIMs a bit negative and have my O2s at WOT in the 895 - 910 range; 28* of timing and no KR. Since the heads are milled, I will not bring them down to 870 unless I get a wideband.
The grot headers sound a bit nasty (rasp), so I'll probably add a bullet muffler in the I-pipe or redo the POS Y-Pipe with bullets and a real collector.
A big thanks to Nick for his help and patience on the motor & cam. Every time I talked with him, he was upgrading something as new or better parts became available.

alright! It's good to hear that the car has been revived. It's good to hear you say that the 226 XE-R cam is smooth with the idle speeds mentioned. I'm going to give the XE-R 224 a try on a 112 LSA. Is yours on a 112 or 114? Did ya go with dual springs or 918's?
Congrats on getting the car running again. I'm anxious to hear your results next weekend! BTW, your old converter goes in tomorrow as a PT4400.

Ragtop 99, I'm in Rockville, Md. Wanna take an LS1 newbie for a ride in that LS1-powered beast? You might as well show it off!

Chris it feels really good up top but I can't wait to back it up on the track. After all my car on 7 cylinders felt fast so hopefully I'll do better than high 11s next time out

All I have to do it read to see that it's on a 114 LSA. I'd be interested in knowing what pistons and rods you're running as well. Eventually I'd like to have a forged bottom-end for a few more RPM's.

Glad to see you have everything back together now, and up and running. Maybe I'll be the next one to get a motor from ARE (mine should be finished up really soon)...
What size injectors did you go with? I'm undecided as to whether or not I should change mine right away. I know the stock '98 injectors will support a decent amount of hp, but I'm planning on spinning this motor pretty high... Maybe some SVO 36#'s...

Pistons are Ross. Rods are resized stock with ARP rod bolts.
I went with SVO 30lb injectors. I thought about trying a set of 98/01 injectors, but decided for high rpm use I'd rather have the extra capacity. it's not just the HP level so much as the duration that raised my concern. At 6800 rpm the time the injector has to support 400 HP is less than at 6000.
For my set-up, they should be adequate and did not require too big an adjustment to the computer. I had 36lb SVOs with the blower and I was not confident that the tuning (mail order) really dialed them in. However with LS1 Edit, I now realize that I could dial them in. If you spin to 7200 rpm, 36lb injectors may have be a smarter choice.
