Default is MTI at fault?

I bought the MTI b1 cam with the k-motion springs they matched me up with. One of the springs broke and I am now stuck with a $300 doller bill from the dealership. Plus I have to buy another spring plus shipping which will probably break anyway. They said I should buy the comp springs but that is another 189? Shouldn't they at least send me a replacement box of the comps since they reccomended the k-motions?

You must have bought that cam a while ago. MTI has been recommending the comp 26918s for a while now. I wouldn't waste my time with those old K-motions they used to sell for these cams. I've read about many of them breaking. Just get the 918s.

If MTI installed them, I'd say it would be based upon how many miles, months, and driving conditions they've been used.

I wouldn't expect them to send you a replacement box of valvesprings. I don't believe they knowingly sold you 'bad' valvesprings. They sold you what seemed to be working the best at the time. There was a large rash of valvespring failures around last spring. I believe the 918's didn't become available until late spring of 2001 or thereabouts.

I broke a series of valvesprings before my engine ate a rocker arm. I haven't purchased anything from MTI, but $300+$189 is a much better deal than $3000 to repair heads/valves/guides/springs (maybe more).

Once my first one died, another died about every 3-4 weeks. After the second died, I knew I was on borrowed time. The 3rd one blew up a single day before I was scheduled to have them all replaced. I wouldn't be slow about replacing the entire set.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it'll be the comp 918s.

MTI isn't at fault at all. They sold you what seemed to be the best spring at the time that you bought the cam package. It isn't their responsibility to update your package with newer products. I don't want you think I'm coming off harsh; I know that's the way it reads.

Email Jayson at MTI, he may be able to get you some discounted Comp 26918 springs since you already bought one package from him. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I bought a T-1 and the older comp springs from MTI. I had Speed Inc. do the install. The next day at the track, one of the springs broke.
I had the car towed back to the shop ($350).
Tom not only gave me the spring for free, but did the work gratis also. He didn't even give me a hassel about the fact that I provided the parts.
That is customer service!

Just change the spring yourself.

I have K-motions and never had a problem, unlike the 7 Comp springs I broke.

One spring isn't the end of the world, 7 verges on it

Believe me, if I can change a spring, you can, it wasn't too bad of a job and most likely MTI may have one lying around, the first few Comp springs I broke I called local speed shops, alot of them had single springs laying around that I picked up for free.

I originally put the springs in myself. I brought the car to the dealership not knowing what was wrong, they found the borken spring out took it out so I am just letting them do it.

PS I have had the K-motions in for a while.
Just let the car warm up for a while before you go. 5,000 on them and no problems
