Default Solid cam maintenance?

Just out of curiosity, how often are you solid roller guys going in and checking/adjusting valve lash? I'll be using T&D rockers and a pretty nasty cam in the new motor, if that matters.

I figured I'd be on the safe side by checking every oil change, which is a strange schedule I have made out for myself, but it works (I change oil in the car at the same time I change oil in my truck, which is every 4000miles). This probably works out to 100 miles (if that) on my car, but they're hard miles <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

That would be plenty if not excessive. I always adjusted solid rollers about every 3-4 months or anytime I heard valvetrain noise getting louder. With the shaft mounted rockers, you wont have to do it as often as you think. I hope you go with an intake to support those high rpms <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

The RPM's shouldn't be a problem... I have a ported LS6 intake, and the compression ratio is going to be a little higher than most... SE guys turn these motors 7800rpms with a hydraulic cam, for cryin' out loud <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

IMO, right after you put it together I would pop off the valve covers after the first time you go to the track, I'd just want to check. Also folks tend to adjust rockers cold on the first pass and then adjust them after the motor has been run a bit.

Hey George, you should really consider a ported and polished Holley intake. Supposedly a thermal barrier coating on the bottom will negate most of the heatsoak, plus ice will have a greater affect on the manifold temp between runs I would think. I have watched Westech adjust the lash on the 302ci Camaro, and saw CEndres doing it on his departed 98Z.

George, maintance is really not bad at all on the solid roller setup in regards to adjusting lash. I would defintely check the lash after putting the first 100 miles on the setup. Mine were off a little bit after a few heat cycles. This is very normal. I readjusted them and checked them again at 3k miles and they hadn't moved at all. Paul has put another 3k+ miles with my old motor (all these miles in both cars were in stop/go traffic,etc)and the valvetrain still is as quiet as it was when it left my car. I'm going to check them in the next few weeks, but I don't anticipate them having moving much at all.

Cool, thanks guys...

As far as a Holley intake goes, it's extremely likely that I will go that route down the road, but for now I'm all tapped out after the expense of the new motor and fixing everything else on the car.

That's pretty much what I had planned... I do want to keep a close check on things at first until everything has had a chance to "settle in."
