Default what are the best valves ?

Hi every body there <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I'am very proud to register. I hope to enjoy my time with you all.
MY QUESTION?

I want the best valves and cam for my 346ci . The heads will be ported at home. I am thinking to install 2.08/1.60 valves and what is the best cam for this valves ?
How about:
* TR224 114LSA
* Lunati Cam 226 - .554 - 114
* hammer c1 222/566.112lsa
* hammer c2 224/581.112lsa
* 226/226 591/591 .112
* 224/224 566/566 .112

thank you all....... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I would say those are too big for a 346. Valve size can make a big difference in having a nice torque curve, or not having much at all due to the effect that the seats and valves have on velocity. You'll see heads for LS1s on here that have stock valves, 2.02, and 2.05 intake valves. There is debate on each one, but most go 2.02 or 2.05

To answer, the lightest valves are the best <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Stock LS1 valve size is 2.00”/1.55”

You can fit maximum 2.02”/1.57” valves in the stock valve seats. This is what the majority of the aftermarket LS1 ported heads are using.

If you go any bigger than this, you will need to machine out the valve/head surface area and install new/larger valve seats. Just a big pain in the ***. (and I promise you, your not going to install new valve seats at home unless your the CEO of a large machine shop) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Use quality stainless 2.02"/1.57" valves, a good 3 angle valve job, and do a good port job to include bowl work and you will have a set of heads that will flow as much air as you will ever need on a stock 346 cubic inch LS1. Have the heads "flat" milled about .030"-.035" for a 10.5-10.6 to 1 compression ratio.

Hope you have past experience with head porting or that die grinder in the wrong hands may just cost you the price of a new set of heads $$$$

A cam choice can be very personal. You cant go wrong with a B-1 (114 LSA) and a set of Comp Cams

Good Luck,
Ron,

ali al ali....

I am in no way trying to belittle you, but [if] you have no past experience porting cylinder heads, I would not attempt it any more than I would attempt giving my neighbor a free root canal with a dremel tool after reading a couple of dental books at the library.

I believe in doing things myself. I dont pay money to have a cam replaced, etc, [but] I dont think I would attempt hogging out a set of LS1 heads myself.

Again,
Good Luck

The "best valves" question is very subjective, It is bore size sensitive and valve size reacts directly to the runner/bowl geometry design and combustion chamber mods. 2.08's are very big IMHO. The best results we have had were with the Ferrea 2.02's modded a hair with some creative seat cuts. With this understood, smart porting using the stock valve size WILL net you up to 298 cfm with tedious and sensible port/bowl work. 2.02's just go there easier without stratigic porting. I guess in a nut shell, IMHO valve sizeing depends on the porter and engine cubes and desired RPM band you want the motor to work most efficiently in. Good luck! I heard Rev valves are really good too, I haven't tried them yet though.

I am using titanium valves in my new engine and after extensive research of all the options I chose Ferrea. I believe their manufacturing process is superior to the competition and they seem to be the choice of many professional race engine builders. With an investment of ~$100 per valve, I guess you can understand why I did so much research.

Also, keep in mind, if you go over a 2.02" intake valve you have to change out the seat.
