My car slaps and knocks but I dont use any oil.I believe that the reason for the ring change was to reduce oil consumption at high rpms.As for the knock Im not sure if it has any short term effect on oil consumption(it only happens cold).Long term I cant see how it would be good after many thousands of miles with the piston shot peening <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" /> the bore.

Re: 2002 questions??Don't the coated pistons and new rings work?? I don't have any oil consumption, but I have piston slap like I have forged pistons! Once the engine is warmed up, it's fine. My car was built June 1st, so it was one of the early ones. My dad's '02 SS was built in November, and he doesn't have any piston slap. I don't think they changed over to the newer pistons until later on in the model year.

Re: 2002 questions??Don't the coated pistons and new rings work?? My 02 was built Jan 29 2002. No slap or oil consumption. Has just over 1k miles.

2002 questions??Don't the coated pistons and new rings work?? So if the new coated pistons fit tighter and slide in the bores better and the new rings give better oil control and all that why are guys with 2002 still complaining of piston slap?.The fix didn't work or what??
