What is the BIGGEST you can bore?

What is the biggest I could bore a 99 LS1 using the stock sleeves and what ci would it be? NO RE-SLEEVING.
If a stroker crank was added to the mix here what ci would it finially be?
Would it be worth installing a stroker crank to a set up like this?
With a light weight rotating assembly, stage 2 heads for the no stroker version what would this motor run et wise?
Would you need stage 3 heads for the stroker version and what would it run ET wise?
Both set ups with a fairly wild cam.
Roller rockers?
I just can't sleep and all these things are mulling through my brain.
Lots of questions and thanks.

i think the safe max for a 99 is something like .015" or something. cant remember. Sean Gustin has bored .030 though....thats 348cid and 351cid, respectivly.
adding a 4" crank to the 351 would make 388 (the 348 + the 4" crank would be 383).
With a good rotating assembly, heads and a good cam, (+ your drivetrain), i could see mid-high tens easy if everything was maximized and tuned well.
with a 4" crank the bore wouldnt move so no need for "Stage 3" heads, the ET with the stroker would not be worth the cash on the crank. they just dont perfrom well.
what do you mean by roller rockers? shaft mounted rockers? those are only necessary with solid rollers. plus they cost about 850.

Not sure on the years, But Make sure that you can find a ring set for the bore that you want. I wanted a 20 thou overbore, and JE only made a ringset for a 12 thou overbore. call and see what you get.
Hey Tom, time for a change again bud? I know you are leery about sleeved motors now, but things have gotten better within the past year. Better sleeves, better insertion processes.
You could always go with an iron 6.0L block and bore it out some. Adds 80 lbs to the front of the car, which could be offset with a chromoly K-member, steering rack, and a lightweight hood. Or go with the fancy Wilwood brakes up front (-50 lbs).
How about a solid roller 346ci setup? Look at the results Futral is getting with those motors, incredible! We don't have many solid roller setups racing yet, I think there is alot to develop and test in that area for LS1s.

What I think would be an awesome and unique setup is the following, assuming NO nitrous use <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Offset 3.72 ground stock crankshaft, cleanup of stock bore (Maybe up to .015)
very lightweight cast pistons with valve reliefs for a big cam and low tension rings
alum lightweight rods
ARPs all throughout
Have the pistons and cylinder walls coated
upgraded oil pump or even dry sump setup <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Ported 5.3L heads with great flow numbers between .400 and .600 lift and around 11.2 or higher comp (depending on cam selection and octane requirement)
Solid roller cam (dependant on rpm range you wnat to hit, head flow numbers, driveability requirements etc)
necessary valvetrain upgrades.
You would have one LIGHT and fairly inexpensive rotating assembly, great compression and with the solid roller great rpm ability. Combine that with 4.30/4.56 gears TP4400 converter and a 26/28 inch slick and you would fly. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

when is someone going to build a de-stroked LS1?
anyone remember the old 377s that are still popular?
they love to rev and make power....i'd love to see what someone could make power wise with a big bore, stock stroke, solid roller cam, sheetmetal intake and a redline of 8000rpm

The lightweight build up you have above, CAST pistons in that set-up would fall apart: i.e: ring lands break, gudgeon pin boss crack, etc.
Use Forged pistons... I know from previous builds!
