Default Heads and cam

I read most of the cam info sticky but kinda got lost somewhere in there, so I will just give as much info as I can and go from there.

I have a 1999 z28. ported maf/tb, 160* tstat, ls6 setup, flp headers/ory, spec 3 clutch.

I understand a little bit about cams, but I am new to this and need it spoonfed. I am looking for a streetable heads/cam combo (this is my dd) that will make optimal power. What range should I be looking in numbers wise on a cam, and what type of heads/valvetrain will work best with that? I am looking at bang for buck.

I would also like to add that I only want to talk about PROVEN combos. What you have installed on your own car, what you have personally driven, etc. I dont want a saga, just straightforward advice. kthnx

Jess

Streetable is relative to each different person and varies a lot.

224/228, 228/232, 228/228, 224/224 are some proven dd power making cams. With any of these cams a set of heads with smaller than stock chambers will work well.

Smaller increases compression ratio!!= more power.

Smaller valves would decrease flow but you dont want smaller valves

Because generally speaking, smaller cams idle better and dont lose as much compression which gives them better bottom end power, which is where you are at during normal daily driving.

Bigger cams flow more, have more valve overlap, have choppier idle, and are more of dogs for daily driving.

Now you can make a big cam very good for a DD if you match it up good with a set of heads and proper valvetrain.

Yes but a cam with more intake flow closes the intake valve later which means that the mix is not compressed until later in the compression stroke, which lowers your overall compression ratio. This will result in lower compression and hence lower power mostly noticed in the low rpm's.
