Default Coolant, what do you racers use?

100% coolant (dexcool)
100% water
1/2 and 1/2
water and water wetter?

for some reason I remember someone posting something about NOT using water in the stock radiator.

Larry, I have used 50%/50% and a bottle of Royal Purple's purple ice (just like the Redline water wetter). I have had great luck with this setup.

I've always stuck with the 50/50 mix and been fine. I have a manual fan switch, so I can kick 'em on when I need to.

Pretty much 50/50 now. When I had the S/C, I ran about 65/35 water/coolant plus RP Ice. If I lived in a warm climate like the big H, I would use 70% water. Even in a hot climate I would not go above 80% water jsut to increase boil-over protection.

100% Dexcool will reduce your cooling ability.

I am using 100% water with a bottle of water wetter and my car runs extremely cool.

Just water wetter is not recommended for cold climates, but here in sunny Cali it is fine!

Its thermal transfer properties are better than antifreeze. The reasons to run a mixture of antifreeze are to avoid freezing, reduce the risk of boil over, and corrosion protection. I think Water Wetter has additives to handle corrosion and may slightly increase the boiling point, but I'm not certain.

I would run 80/20 water-anti-freeze plus watter wetter. I would be hesitant about running pure watter - sure, it will cool well, but you will have a much greater rate of corrosion going on in your cooling system.

If you want to run something like these get a hunk of magnesium metal and ground it to your radiator, and let it hang in your tank (under youre pressure cap). The magnesium will then oxidize before the rest of your system - you will need to change out the metal periodically as it will dissolve with time. I do this, run 80/20, and still change out the piece of metal ever 6 months or so.

isnt antifreeze illegal at the strip? i thought water wetter was to take the place of the antifreeze since 100 percent water wouldnt be sufficient and antifreeze was illegal.

water/dexcool

wouldn't running 100%water increase engine temp quicker? if the car is trailored to the track and back i can see using 100% water but not for driving around on street applications. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

A little trick here.

I use distilled water and 2 bottles of Water Wetter.

I was going to use less coolant and more water with my setup, but my mech said he's seen pitting on engines running too much water and no coolant.
FWIW, dunno how much fact there..

I run hose water with a little coolant mixed in, maybe 20%. Coolant doesn't really matter unless you have a car that likes to run > 230 degrees or live in an area that freezes over.
