Hmmm, usually with a cam that big it's only going to perform at it's max with a set of high flowing heads... at least that's what i've read and seen in dyno results. Granted the TRex has got a pretty sick record for cam only, but i'd prefer to eat my toast with butter

If i were you, i'd broaden your choices a bit. Try something a little smaller like a 228R or a TV2.

Talking Asa Cam

I have a question regarding this ASA cam from GM. I have a stock LS1 Camaro with SLP long tubes, Cold Air, Ported MAF, Ported TB, Custom PCM Tune, LS6 Manifold, 3" true duals (no cats, mufflers, or rear O2's), 3.73's, and a 2600 stall. I spray it with a TNT Wet 150 HP shot. My times are 11.35 to 11.39 @122 MPH on E/T streets. I am thinking of going with a Cam and the only one that caught my attention in this thread was the ASA by GM.

Is this a good cam with nitrous? Do I need less overlap with the N2O? I want to keep from having to change the springs. Thanks guys. -Tom.

Yes the asa cam will work great with nitrous, many guys I ahve talked to with them on here make it into the 10's with cam only and nitrous. I too am thinking of running taht cam being I already have the LS6 springs installed, the cam sounds killer, and agree with you about the spring 'life'. Yes there are better cams out there but A4 cars have made 350-360rwhp and M6 cars 390+ rwhp. Sounds like a great cam to me and can always upgrade it later if you decide to get some nicely ported heads.

Dude, I shouldn't have to say anything,,, get a Magic Stick! The trex is toooo much cam for your car. Your springswill go in a minute. I'd go MS3 w/112 LSA and PRC Dual springs Ti retainers,7.4 rods. And get a tune.

Right now my car is stock, but will have LT's with Dynomax Bullet Mufflers hung from the collectors, LID, then of course SFC's, TQ Arm, Panhard bar, with a moser 12 bolt, with 3.73 gears. Anyhow, choices are the MS4, G5X4, or TRex
You were in the same boat as me when i was choosing my cam. I did a boat load of research.. I was on the computer reading, looking other websites and what not for 8 hourse a day for 2 weeks straight. So it is hard to tell you what cam to go with. Try and do some research for yourself.

But i will tell you, i have a custom grind of 228/232 .588/.595 110+4... on my CAM ONLY car.. See my dyno numbers in my sig. BTW here are my mods when i dynoed

I honestly wish that i would have went bigger. I also have a idle vid too in my sig

for a daily driver I would not go with a large cam and definetly not for a first cam. The largest recomended cams for daily driver (and still to large) would be a G5x2 on 112. TSP torquer 2 on 111, TR 230/236 on 112, FMS F-13 on 112

I have heard this line of thought for a while but I also didn't want to go bigger later after I realized I wanted more. I daily drive my Mega Death reverse split 244/242 6.12 on 112lsa and absolutely love it.

I guess I read his post a little quick too, he said it is not a daily driver and I missed that. Still for a first cam ...

I have not heard of the mega death. You are runnning a reverse split because you are leaving the heads stock?

That was the plan but after talking with several of our vendors I can still make amazing power with new heads as well.

+1 on the custom grind. I don't think I would pick any of the cams you listed.

Do you have a print out of you dyno? I have never seen #"s like that with your torque and HP so close together especially cam only with a cam that size. You might be onto something here.
