Default Oil Pressure Issue

Ok... Im having the same issue that I see several guys having ..

Only difference is that I have oil running down the back sides of the block on both sides.. There is a 2 inch stream that looks as tho is coming from the head but that doesnt make sense..

Is there anywhere on the back of the block that could be leaking and causing drop in pressure? I know it could be leaking from:

1. OPSU
2. Rear Main seal-- but that wouldnt start that high on the block right?
3. Rear cover seal--would that cause oil pressure loss?

What Im really interested in is on the back of the engine where the oil goes up to the oil pressure sending unit , does the rear cover act as a wall for the oil flow?

Like if you were to take the rear cover off would it affect oil pressure. Since you can take the front off and it will not affect the pressure since it isnt a wall in the flow...

thanks

I would tend to agree that it is the sending unit.

I have checked that.. I used my fuel pressure gauge to verify the pressure its around what the dash gauge says...

Wasnt leaking around there either..

I did pull my intake and well theres oil everywhere from where the sts kit started blowing oil.. I suppose it could be coming from the intake. I took the intake off and cleaned it today. Ill clean everything back up and check it then.

Im going to pull the front cover tomorrow and check the pump and O-ring...

After that I suppose only the bearings are left

I pulled the oil pump and the seal is good. I pulled the spring out and it looks fine as well. I guess Ill pull the cover off the oil pump and make sure its ok but I assume it is. Since all the bolts are off the pan I suppose Ill be pulling the pan tomorrow.

Once i get the pan off can I pull the caps off the bearings without causing any problems?

How did you use your fuel pressure guage to do that? Did you take out the sending unit and make an adapter to screw into it's place or did you tap into somewhere else?

tapped into the piece that comes off beside the filter. Its where the opsu is on the corvettes I think.

What about the pcv system are you guys talking about. How does that hurt oil pressure? I have part of my pcv system removed because of the turbo.

Not trying to jack the thread, but im having the same problem, so i figured i would post here instead of starting a new one. My car has a same oil leak coming from somewhere. I also have low oil pressure, would the leak cause low pressure? My needle on the pressure gauge always wiggles back and forth. Would hat have anything to do with the sending unit??

A leak from the sending unit WILL cause low oil pressure. I had the same problem you guys were having and it end up being the oil sending unit. I reached behind the intake on the drivers side and it was wet, so I unscrewed it (with a oil unit socket) and it practically fell apart in my hand.

I checked mine and unfortunetly that wasnt it. Also wasnt the oil pump or o-ring. Im still waiting on someone to say if the rear cover serves as a wall for the oil passage or not. I suppose it could be leaking from there.

Ill probably pull the motor and see. IMO I can pull the motor in under an hour. It would probably take me longer to pull the trans.. I HATE pulling the trans.

How low is your oil pressure? Have you looked to see about where the oil is coming from?

No the rear cover doesnt serve as a block for oil. There is a rear main seal that sits back there if that where leaking u would know it. Now do u run synthetic or regular oil reading its a vett i assume synthetic if so the thickness verys alot at certain temps. But as far as oil in your intake ditch the sts pcv and run a catch can set up with a breather.

No i dont have the vette anymore (check sig.) And my oil leak is very small. I just noticed oil on the oil pan the other day. My oil pressure is at 40 when cold, and after it gets good and hott it will drop tp 20, but wont go past 20. It does raise with the rpm's too. And yes i run syntheic
