I'm not exactly sure what the book says but 6 qts is what I plan on putting in it. A buddy of mine is a Royal Purple distributor, I bought a case of 10 W 30 this evening and will do the oil change tomorrow afternoon.

When you use the longer filter it adds about 1/4 of a quart to the capacity, but most people just round it up to 6 quarts. You can safely run 7 quarts in the LS1, a lot of autocrossers have done this for years to prevent oil starvation in the corners.
