Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
what is the weight of stock pistons?
how about some of the aftermarket offerings for stock bore? Ross, JE, etc.

Re: Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
Brian, I have the weights for the Lunati, JE, and stock pistons at home. I'll post them when I get home from school.

Re: Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
OK, I lost my piece of paper. LOL However, I just re-weighed them at work.
Lunati piston: 375.1g (495.8g w/ pin); 1.130" compression height
JE piston: 430.3g (548.5g w/ pin); 1.311" compression height
stock piston w/ pin: 600.7g; 1.338" compression height
Lunati rod: 615.4g
Oliver rod: 666.3g
(Both rods were 6.125")
Also, stock crank weighs 52lbs. A Lunati 4" crank weighs 45lbs.

Re: Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
Damn...the lunati piston is 17.5% lighter than stock
I think I may pop in some forged units and retain the stock rods (forget waiting a bazillion months for shipping )
With good rodbolts I think this would be a decent setup for my 6800rpm shift points

Re: Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
Brian, anything from Lunati takes forever. If you want them, you better order now. LOL
We had the Oliver rods and JE pistons at the shop in about a week. However, there was an expedite fee on the pistons since we needed them ASAP. Normal turn around is ~1-1.5 months on them.
Thunder will have all of these items in stock, ready to ship the very near future. So, no more waiting 5 years for a piston/rod combo. This will work out well when you need to get your motor together and get your car back on the road quickly.

Re: Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
It took about 7 weeks to get my 20cc dish pistons from J&E. They where a custom make, so I am sure that was why it took so long.
Also my Manley rods are 603 grams.

Thank you again, and remember, lighter means better accelleration and easier on everything else at higher rpm, really sturdy rods means the bearings can get punished more, also.

Re: Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
SC, yes, you are correct. The piston is out of a 4" Luanti stroker kit w/ 6.125" rods. I posted the info assuming people would recognize it was different due to the smaller compression height.

But my opinion is that it is a stroker piston for a 4" stroker/stock rod combo, which means it's useless in this comparison.
