Piston weight comparison (stock bore size)
how about some of the aftermarket offerings for stock bore? Ross, JE, etc.
TIA
Lunati piston: 375.1g (495.8g w/ pin); 1.130" compression height
JE piston: 430.3g (548.5g w/ pin); 1.311" compression height
stock piston w/ pin: 600.7g; 1.338" compression height
Lunati rod: 615.4g
Oliver rod: 666.3g
(Both rods were 6.125")
Also, stock crank weighs 52lbs. A Lunati 4" crank weighs 45lbs.

I think I may pop in some forged units and retain the stock rods (forget waiting a bazillion months for shipping )
With good rodbolts I think this would be a decent setup for my 6800rpm shift points

We had the Oliver rods and JE pistons at the shop in about a week. However, there was an expedite fee on the pistons since we needed them ASAP. Normal turn around is ~1-1.5 months on them.
Thunder will have all of these items in stock, ready to ship the very near future. So, no more waiting 5 years for a piston/rod combo. This will work out well when you need to get your motor together and get your car back on the road quickly.

Jason 99Ta, bless you for posting this info, but do you have stock LS1 rod weight? TIA

I just weighed a stock rod, as I did the Oliver and Lunati pieces. It weighed 609.1g (6.09" rod).
Out of Curiosity...how much is the "expedite fee" on JEs?

Brian, there are a few different levels you can choose from. 3 day, 5 day, 7 day, etc. I believe the 7 day was a little over $200 extra.
- Lunati Pro-Mod rods (6.125") = 666.7 g
- Diamond racing forged pistons (1.315" compression height) = 399.5 g (521.0 w/ pin)

But my opinion is that it is a stroker piston for a 4" stroker/stock rod combo, which means it's useless in this comparison.
