A short block is just the block with crank, pistons and rods. A longblock has cam an heads with it.

There is more to it than that. A SB has just the the pistons and crank and rods. You need oil pump, timing set, engine covers and a few other things besides heads and a cam to make a long block from a short block.

The small stuff adds up. Lifters arent included and neither are the trays for them. If you already have a long block sitting there to rob from it isnt a big deal but if you dont and are starting from scratch a long block might be cheaper and easier than a sb.

But if I would buy the short block I can just transfer everything from my original block to the new one, correct?
