I'm not going to go into whether the hotcam is a good or bad cam but compared to a B1/T1, hammer cam, or TR224 the hotcam idles much worse than them. I've driven both cams many times and have heard several different hotcams and the sound is different too. The hotcam sounds like a chug, chug, chug instead of a nice rumpity, rumpity, rumpity type sound. The norm seem to be about 365rwhp too for stock heads and all bolt ons so if your looking for 400rwhp you definitely better look elsewhere. Even the other cams I listed may not even get you there and if they do it's just barely. Usually with those cams I've seen around 380-385rwhp being the norm. Just my insight but if your going to go in the motor and do all that work I would spend the extra couple hundred and get the most out of it.

It's also good for the "hard-hitting" sound. If it's what works for your intended future mods, you should buy it. Otherwise, if you intend to work your combo around a H/C setup, maybe you may wish to look at the single patterns. Intake/exhaust biased cams are a waste of money on a (now hear this) full exhaust, N/A, street car.

Another Hotcam user here. My Dyno #'s arent the Best around. I can Email you the Graph if you like send me mail and ill reply. My98Z28@centurytel.net
The track times mod for mod track for track i have done VERY well with the hotcam racing the local guys around here with other cams. I'm not behind them AT ALL because of my cam. They do make more RWHP than i do. But the track doesnt show it. I Love this cam. And i like the $314 i bought it for with springs better!!!
Oh and i hit My limiter at 6400 and still pulling above 350Rwhp so it doesnt drop off fast above 6000 like people say.....
Hotcam and MAC headders (cheap combo) for power. And i run 12flat back to back in the 1/4 with a 1.77 60' wich could be improved.... No throttle body, maf, computer upgrades either (except limiters)

With stock heads!!!

I still run that consistantly.

I like mine. 119.8 mph with a Auto in the 1/4 is OK with me.
I am sure there are better cams out there, but cheap is good sometimes.

Did I understand correctly, the GM cam gives a harsh idle. I have the stock cam and would like to have a shorter duration cam (give it that sharp, rough, high RPM idle). If the GM won’t give me this, what will?

Oh, the hotcam will certainly give you a rough idle if that's what you want.

Take a listen to this link from Riptide's webpage:
