Compression check results

Default Compression check results

I thought I had overheated the engine, but now I am thinking it wasn't running long enough to damage anything. I did a compression check and this is what I came up with.

cylinder #1 - 180
cylinder #2 - 175
cylinder #3 - 175
cylinder #4 - 175
cylinder #5 - 170
cylinder #6 - 180
cylinder #7 - 175
cylinder #8 - 175

I would call these good. Now my question.
Does this mean that I can rule out any damage to the heads or head gasket?

I would do a leak down test just to be sure. A cranking (dynamic) compression test can still hide some problems... A leak down test will tell you if you have a blown head gasket or cracked head by bubbling in the radiator...

What he said. I overheated 327 SBC once to the point that the heads were glowing cherry red. I shut the car down when it began knocking and dieseling like crazy and let the car cool down overnight. I drove the car for a month afterwards before the severely cracked heads and blown head gasket problem showed.

I'll see if I can do the leakdown test.

The car was only running for about 15 minutes and there was water in the block. I am not expecting any damage. There as just no way for more water to get in. My basis for saying the car overheated is that the fast fans kicked on and the heater hoses were too hot to touch. The radiator hoses were still cold. I also didn't have a water temp gauge at the time.

The car now idles rough, but I think it may be a sensor problem.

Well I wouldn't worry much, the car I was referring to was run for several miles at WOT with NO water....
