Default this may sound weird but, should i change my oil?

After installing my FLPs yesterday, i was riding around and my low oil light came on. I saw this coming because about 5 days before i saw it on the dipstick. Im at 2100 miles on for this oil, 900 early for a check. The dealer is closed because of the holiday. Do i really need to chage my oil entirely, or can i juts go to Mobil and get a court?...few courts? (how much oil do you add when its gets to the low oil light lever?

---oh, and it's normal for our LS1s to burn oil like this isnt it?...i hope

ummmm, do you know how to check your oil level on the dipstick???

Take a look at it and see how much oil you need. If the level is fine, check the wireing for the oil level sensor, the one on the passenger side in the oil pan...

Hey There! If you are low, don't ever wait to level it off, but ALWAYS make certain that you ARE low. Don't ever just trust a sensor or an idiot light and randomly start throwing in extra quarts Check that dipstick!

Seriously, though, you need to check the dipstick. The crosshatched area generally equals a quart, so if your level is at the bottom then you should add one quart (it's okay to just top it off - you don't need to change it entirely). If it doesn't register at all, add one quart, wait a few minutes, then check the stick. Repeat until you get into the crosshatched area and then add as needed (halfway equals half quart, etc) to get approximately to the full line. Remember to wait a few minutes after pouring in the oil to give it time to drain into the crankcase.

If the dipstick shows that your oil is full, then I would pursue the sensor as Ryan has mentioned.

IF you see your oil gauge low immediately buy a quart and put it in. Dont drive around with the LOW oil light on!
You can kiss your bearings goodbye if you do that.

Ok, so this is how the chain of events went?

1) see dipstick low.
2) wait 5 days
3) idiot light goes off saying oil is low
4) ask internet people if you should change oil?

No offense, but after 1) you should immediatly add oil. You must keep it filled at all times, reguardless of when you are supposed to change the oil out totally.

The only reason to compeletely change out the oil early, is if you suspect there is a problem with the oil, like you severly overheated the engine, or you crunched some other engine parts, and suspect metal or other junk floating around in your oil, etc.

People are really helpful at this site, but I think how you worded the questioned confused people, myself included when I first read it.

Always keep these engines full of oil!

Good luck
