Default If you were going to buy ported heads???

If you were going to get a set of let's say Stage II heads (2.055/2.08 in/1.60ex.) specs listed because everyone seems to have their own version of what Stage II heads are.

I'm looking to get a set of heads that preferably would get me about 440 HP with an LS6 intake (See sig for current stuff - AutoTap arrives tomorrow. LS1Edit to hopefully arrive next week).

Knowing what you all have learned now, whose would you get and where do you get them?

What cam profile should I be looking for?

Fred,

You didn't say what your current RWHP is, 440 RWHP is setting your sights pretty high for a h/c car specially for a 99. I have GTP stage II heads, their great, they flow well. I bought mine before the price increase but you can get them from Thunder Racing. Cam is another story all together. With a cam it really depends on what you want to use the car for and how you want it to act. I have the Thunder Racing 224 561/561 112LSA which again I think is great for a daily driver. Post what your intentions for the car are, i.e, daily driver, good idle yada, yada. Good luck on the 440 RWHP's.

Never dynoed the car. Tried calling a couple of times, but everyone seems booked, unless its during the day while I'm work. She runs very strong as you can see from my 1/4 miles of 13.1 way back with very little done on F1's. My best guess would be around 320'ish rwhp as it sits now, considering old ET's and the newer mods, especially the headers.

It's an M6, I'm not concerned with idle at all (as long as it doesn't stall out on me), it can lope all day long for all I care. I plan to drive the car daily in the summer months. Noise is not concern. Fuel economy is not a concern.

IMO, Nick has some of the best product around. I'd be doing his heads (if I hadn't spend a small fortune doing my lame@ss CNC heads up to 2.055 x 1.60).

And, if you want hp, then big, big, big is it for cams. Question is, can you tolerate the distractions of a super-huge cam? The car will have part throttle problems, regardless of tuning in stop-n-go, hilly freeway traffic. You won't be able to go up steep hills at low rpms. She just won't breathe.

440hp (fwhp) can be had with a "medium-sized" cam quite easily. You didn't say you wanted 440rwhp. That's a big difference. 440 x .85 = 374rwhp. I was there last go-around w/ the Comp 212/218 (1.8 rockers), heads, headers, & buncha other breathing mods (but no LS6 intake).

This time, I'm putting in the intake, bigger valves, & a custom 218/224 @ 112 w/ the 1.8's. I'm disappointed in IRS 'cause they delivered a cam that wasn't as advertised (not quite as much lift). Still, I'd liketa see 400rwhp.

You want the hp yer talking, you will need that LS1_Edit to address a buncha PCM issues.

440 rwhp would be preferred. I would like a combination that can get a stock weighted M6 into the 11's (11.6-11.8@117-122). I am going to try to dyno the car out this weekend to give me a baseline of where I'm at currently. If anyone knows of a Dyno shop near me that might have sometime for baselining, please shoot me their number.

We don't have hills in Southeast Lower Michigan where I'm at, or anything steep whatsoever. Streetability shouldn't be all that bad considering it's a six speed with a 4.10, ad I'm pretty much over 2000 rpm's no matter what speed I'm going.

Been seriously looking at a cam from Thunder "reverse split" - 230/224 .569/.563 111 LSA. Very similar to a cam I had in an old 10.6:1 compression 5.0 LX Mustang I had four or so years back other than the LSA was 110 with a bit more lift and little less duration.

I've heard good things about Nick's shop, and I've heard some not too good things. I've heard more good than bad, however some of the other port shops (MTI, GTP, etc.) I've not heard any bad things about. I figured this would make a good thread to see if people that have already done their stuff would do it starting over, which route they would take.

I've also been considering the Holley/Lingenfelter Aluminum Intake and getting it port matched to the heads, as opposed to the plain old LS6 intake. Also figure that 38 lb. injectors, 85mm SLP MAF and 80mm TB are going to be on their way in the next couple of days.

I might be mistaken in what I want HP wise, but my desired ET's on the stock weighted car may provide a little more help in getting some valuable feedback from enthusiats here.

I went to a saturday dyno day with the local Motown Muscle car club, so I don't know how to schedule a normal dyno session.

I was running 11.80s on drag radials about 3 years ago, and was only dynoing 395 rwhp back then. 3600 lbs, Nitto drag radials, MTI Stage 2s, LS1 intake, T1 cam, MAC headers. We didn't have LS6 stuff back then, and the T1 was considered a huge scary cam LOL! My mph was in the 119-120 mph range as well.

SSinful
What did you mean about the CNC heads? I am thinking about them as one possibility. Is there a problem?

If you want 440rwhp you need the following.

Good stage 2 heads (Top of my list is EMT, MTI and GTP)
Fairly big cam (226 plus duration single pattern cam, with .570 plus lift)

Headers(preferably Dynatech FLP's or hookers)with no cats and cutout for exhaust.

Lid, ported TB, and a GM LS6 intake.

Underdrive pulley and some good tuning (preferably on the dyno wideband)

My setup makes the power shown in my sig and I think the only thing that is holding me back is the cam now.

My mods are basically: Lid, ported MAF, bellows, ported TB, ASP, Dynatechs, cutout, EMT stage 2 heads, Lil B1 cam, LS6 intake and Ls1edit tuning)
