Email Steve Harmon (SJH). All you are doing (to my knowledge) is removing any little burrs that may make the moving parts stick under stress. Of course Im not sure what the shops do to em to pump up the pressure so much. LGM got like 50psi at idle i heard.
I believe they also open up in the passage where the pick up tube goes. If you look up in the passage, you can see a lip that is rough and protrudes in the passage.
I think jmx has a nice picture of this on his site.
I believe that is the only "porting" that is done if any. If I could do it over again, I would have done the work myself after seeing just how easy it is to work on these pumps. The manual even list torque spec's on all bolts. I wish I would have tested the spring in mine to see what the difference is in spring pressures.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I replaced mine with the new engine and used the ls6 pump. I have 50 psi hot and 75 psi cold. I removed the piston and cleaned any burs with Emory cloth. there realy was not any burs to clean off though.

I want the best possible oil pressure <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Where would I get one of the different springs? I guess I'll just take it apart & see what it looks like in there <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Yea anything other than a 918 might break at any time causing....guess what, pump failure.

If that isn't a classic quote, I haven't heard one.
I'm still laughing. Good Stuff.

I may have to port it out...If Jason does it we may have the oil pumping back to the pan instead of the filter <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
