Default Difference between LS6 & LS1 heads

What is the difference between the ls6 and ls1 head. Can you tell by just looking at it?

A local mechanic is selling a set of stock LS6 heads but the heads look almost the same as my stock 98 heads. The only difference I can see is that the valve cover screws in differntly. But I know that the 97-98 valve covers were also changed in 99+ heads.

How can I make sure that the heads he is selling are LS6 or 99+ LS1 heads. If anyone has picture that would help allot.

Ls6 heads have a (D)port for the exhaust, where as the LS1 have a circle exhaust port.

What about the valves? Are they larger or the same valves as the LS1?

No, the valves are the same as a regular LS1 (2.00/1.55).

You'll be able to tell from a glance by looking at the exhaust port.

O vs D

Just as additional FYI, there is a lot more to the LS6 heads than just the exhaust D port.

This will give you a full explanation:
