Default How many porters remove the swirl ramps?

I know this helps the higher lift flow but is it worth it? Maybe you MTI and MMS guys can answer this.

From what I have learned using my flowbench, removing the swirl ramp is not recommended. The most increase in flow will be realized by "laying back" the ramp, widening it and streamlining the guide boss. I did not see any appreciable gain removing it from this point. Recontour and blend/radius the short turn area below the bowl into the valve seat. This area will yield the most flow/ material removal if done properly. Keep in mind, this flow is from .300" on up to max valve lift. For flow below .300", concentrate on a good 3-4 angle valve job and chamber work, 1/2" on either side of the valve seat.

If not done properly, a poor valve job can actually reduce flow in this region over a stock valve job (which is pretty good). You could end up with a set of heads that flow better than stock up top, but worse at .300" and below. The resulting average flow may be no better than a stock head! Use a flow bench, if you can, to verify any changes, good luck!

Thanks for the info. That's some good stuff. I've already got the heads on the car, I was just curious how many of the bigger names remove or modify the ramps. I had mine done by someone from SAM. They completely removed them on both the SAM cars.

My CNC heads from Total Engine Airflow have them in there. They are the only CNC heads that I know of that leave them alone. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> One more reason why I went with their heads.
