Default cleaning heads with...

Tal-Strip II Aircraft Coating Remover. I am planing on using this stuff to spray on my heads to clean all the old gasket material and carbon that wont come off. According to the bottle its safe on aluminum. So would this stuff work ok on the carbon and old gasket material? Would it be safe on the valve seats? Supposidly I can just spray this stuff on, let sit for 11 mins and then spray off with water.

It doesn't work on carbon, tried that last week cause I had a can laying around from another project - ended up having to use the carb dip tank, now that stuff works wonders but smells horrible.

It's a 30 gallon drum with a basket that hangs down into the fluid - the lid has a motor on it and agitates the parts in the fluid to clean them. The carb dip is a special chemical from SafetyKleen that is designed to break down petroleum based stuff(carbon). It is used primarily to clean the internal passages on carburetors that cannot be reached and need to be guaranteed to be clean.

Basically put parts into it that have wet or hard carbon deposits on them(the stuff that you need to scrape off) and a couple hours later you can put them in the jet wash machine for a couple minutes to rinse off and the parts come out looking like brand new.

If you don't have something like that, take a very fine scotchbrite pad and WD40. That's what I did for my heads, worked great.

I work at a GM dealership and we have a big drum of some kind of SafetyKleen degreaser/soap we use to clean the floors at night. It eats up oil and gas like nothing. I might have to go read up on it today to see if it might work. I'm sure its not the same stuff, but worth a look.

I checked on that SafetyKleen stuff at work, and it said on the label that it cleans carbon, but on the bottom it read,

"This product will etch glass and aluminum under certain conditions of use."

Felpro or Permetex make spray on gasket remover. Bubbles up carbon, gasket material, anything. You can just wipe or wash it away. Stuff is the shizzle.
