Interesting. My Dad had his Harley converted to gear drive. Mostly because the chain tensioner wears out fast on Harleys. You darn sure can hear the gear noise from it. Never thought about it for the LS1 motor. I might be inclined to stick with a LS2 chain or double roller because of the cost/benefit factor.

if i go w/ a double chain setup, i gotta change the pump/crank gear and seperate the oil pan from the block a half inch. can this be done w/ that crossmemberbelow the oilpan there? love the noise of a gear driven.

I havent yet seen a gear driven set for an LS1. There is a chain to belt conversion though.

You'd have to tune out your knock sensors.

Just desensitize them, by tuning the attack and delay tables in the PCM. Multiply the attack table by .xx and the decay table by 1.xx

Which in effect tunes them out. Exactly. Listen to Brad because I sure don't know the wording. I don't tune.

It doesnt tune em out completely, just makes them not so sensitive. I desensetized mine by 10% to stop my false knock i was getting.

You had the right idea, at first i just thought you meant to tune them out completely.

I had two sets of those in an old 350 and on both sets the needles bearings went bad in the dual idlers. They only lasted about 8000 miles
