Default Coolant Aroma From Engine

I recently purchased a 2000 Z-28 and did so even though I smelled an aroma of coolant coming from the engine compartment. I have had the car now for a couple of months with no evidence of losing any coolant, however, I can still smell the coolant aroma even when the engine is cold. Is this common? Also, when I check the coolant, I notice a light tan gunk on the coolant dipstick. I have a friend with a 98 T/A and he has the same gunk on his coolant dipstick. Should I assume that this is common as well?

Thanks,

The color you're describing sounds normal, but I don't have any ideas on the coolant odor, especially if the car isn't losing any coolant...

FWIW, I always had a coolant smell from the engine bay in my 98 Formula, it started from day one, but yet I never had to add any coolant anywhere for the entire 2.5 years I had the car, nor could I see any evidence that coolant was seeping out anywhere. Very strange.

I get the coolant smell at times when I run my manual
fan switch.. I figure its when I spilled a bit on the
radiator one day and it has not worn off yet..

I have not had to add any fluid at all to the radiator
so I dunno..

is this kinda like the flikering headlights in fbodys

Check the underside of the big hoses, some of them can leak.

Funny. I've noticed the same smell from my '99, yet it also uses no water....
