Default Ignition Coil Problem P0353, Bad Coil Pack?

I've been getting some surging like I'm running out of gas lately. I do have a bad C5 fuel tank sender and we have a jet pump between our 2 gas tanks that I thought was going bad too.

Happens most when I get below 1/4 tank, but sometimes remains like I'm putt putting out of gas even after a refill for a few miles.

Now I'm throwing a Code P0353 Ignition Coil 3 Control Circuit, Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction.

Anyone have experience with this? Advice? Trying to schedule a Warranty Appy ASAP for the above problems.

What is the resolution? Just replace the coil pack? How are the coil packs #'d? 4 on each side, eh? Are they A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H ??

Anything I can do/check/fix other than replacing the coil packs? Do you replace just 1 or a set of 4?

Anything I should be careful of in the meantime 'til the Appt? Detonation? WOT?

Thx!!

FWIW, this is driver side Coil Pack on Cylinder #3 correct? I think I may swap out the coil pack tonight for a new one.

If I'm running on only 7 cylinders would the PCM throw more codes, or is this all I'll see?

This wouldn't be a symptom of a plug wire or something else, eh? Can I trust the code that it's specfically the coil pack?

Do I need to check any grounding?

You can swap the suspected bad coil with another cylinder and see if the problem "moves" or not. That may help eliminate a wiring issue...

Thanks. Luckily my mechanic has a set of new ones, so we'll probably just swap out #3. This is my 1st time doing this, so I'm probably thinking in overkill mode.

Other than swapping it and watching for more codes, anything else I should be thinking of?

Seeing that you have access to another set of coils, just swap out #3 and see if the problem goes away. Hopefully it will and you'll be fixed/good as new. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

1 guy said a bad coil pack could cause a lean condition and damage the cylinder. I think he was FOS tho. I'd assume the opposite, possible overly rich and might foul the cats.

My good mech said the PCM will shut down that cylinder and I'll be running on 7 if that coil isn't working right.

Whatcha'll think?
Was planning to drive 30 miles to my mech's house tonight.

Think I should disconnect Coil Pack #3 for now?

****.. whatta PITA...

Pulled the injector on Cyl #3 so I wouldn't flood the cats. Drove like crap to my mechs 1 hour drive to replace the coil pack.

Replaced Coil Pack. SAME problem. ****.. he was thinking it was the plug wire to begin with. So we replace the wire on Cyl #3. SAME problem.. So he said.. sometimes misfires and codes on Cyl #3 are really from Cyl #5.

I was skeptical. Replaced the plug wire on Cyl #5 and it looks like the problem is Fixed. He's pretty good with this stuff. So much for trusting PCM codes.. LOL!

Guess my long tubes are doing a job on these wires after 2 years. Time for a new set of wires. Anyone know where I can buy some heat resistant plug sleeves??

Thx

Long nite. Too damn humid out. Goddamn rain won't stop! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Mello, I think Jegs and Summit both carry different kinds of sleeves and high-heat material.

Send some rain up to this part of the State!
