A friend of mine went through a nightmare similar to this. Turns out he over torqued his rocker arms so much that the valves would not seat. just something to check..

The crank sensor wires go down the passenger side, they are not disconnected or burned right?
Yeah at some point you will need to change the oil or you can mess up the bearings. Gasoline is not a lubricant for main bearings.

I bought a 3 foot piece of all thread (a bolt that is threaded from end to end) and I use that and a nut to pull my pulley back on with. A lot safter than using the short stock bolt.
It cost me about $5 and I cut it to length.

Well... There isn't a single code to be found with ATAP. No DTC's, nada... I'm now going to try and see if I can change out the plugs to see what that does...

Well, if there are no obvious computer/electrical problems that leaves mechanical problems.
A compression check would be good. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I don't think I can take it! For the compression test can I just do what we did before and cover the spark plug hole with a finger and turn it over?

Go ahead and do that. If it doesn't push your finger out you've got problems. Watch the rockers on the cylinder your doing it on and note what they are doing/not doing.
Do this now. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
This is killing me wondering what in the hell is wrong with your car. I can't even sleep at night. <img border="0" alt="[boring]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_zzz.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />

I really think the loud pop you heard when first cranking the motor was that of piston(s) slamming into some valve(s). One things for sure if you did bend valve(s) the motor would spin over erraticaly, very fast or up and down in rpms while cranking. It would be noticable.

We took out the plug and put my finger in it. I had the wife turn the car over and the very first time it blew out gas, the rest of it there was no longer and pressure. So out of the 10 second cranking we had, there was on the very first initial sign of compression then it simply would not push my finger out. Also of note, is that it only really 'tries' to crank on the first initial hit after it has set without trying for a few minutes. Otherwise, all the valvetrain sounds normal and there is nothing abnormal other than the fact its just not 'trying'.

I would loosen the rockers 1/2 turn to see if they are too tight. The cylinder isnt holding air somehow. Theres only 2 ways to not hold compression... rings bad or valves open.
Good luck. I just read all 5 pages and want to see how this comes out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Try loosening the rockers like above, and try compression again. I can't imagine you having been able to get the rockers TIGHT enough with the stock (stock heads/no surfacing, stock pushrods, stock head gasket thickness, etc...) net build lash system to hold valves open though.
Then tell your wife you've decided to not just do the cam, but HEADS AND cam.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
