Jeff, MTI does all of their machining/porting in their internal machine shop. You need to stop by sometime and take a tour, you will be impressed. Here is a pic of the machine shop, located inside the main building:

Yes, it is inside of MTI, and they have 4 certified machinists on duty. Three of them are S.A.M. graduates, one has over 15 years of porting experience.
The room in the back corner is where all of the porting is done, two workstations. Behind that red machine on the right you can barely see the new flowbench. This room is kept very clean, since all of the motors are also assembled here.

Yes, Robert was paid very well to leave West Side Machine (who used to do MTI's heads 2 years ago). Before coming to MTI, he was porting heads for at least 4 Houston-area performance shops. Now they have a monopoly on his talents.

I would definitely go with MTI's heads whether they be stage I, II, or III. MTI has more than proven that they stand behind their work if something is not right with any of their work and to my knowledge, as a whole, MTI's combinations have out performed GTP's at the track. Since you are going to get the short block built by MTI why would you have GTP do the heads?
Easy decision - MTI!

Too bad it wasn't done in house when I was a patron there.

Terry, i don't think we have experienced mechanists to do a stroker or porting the heads. if the block is clearanced and machined for the stroker assembly i think it is not too hard to me to assemble it using the helms manual.

The only probably Ive found with the MTI heads is the $3k price tag for stage 2s. What are the stage 3s or stage 3 LS6 heads? $4 maybe $5k. Sorry, unless you dont have anything better to spend money on then pay the $3k for a set of ported STOCK heads, then MTI all the way. Gees, these things arent gold (might as well be)

At this stage in the GEN III game, prices are ridiculous all around.

I have been driving my C5 with MTI 422 for over 2 weeks now & have put ~600 miles on it with no sign of trouble, except that the car cannot go in a straight direction when I floor it

Eric, the machine shop was built inside of the shop. They walled off one of the 12 huge service bays and added the ceiling and a storage area above it for parts. Its a pretty fancy setup, and there are more pieces of equipment in there since that photo was taken.
To give you an idea of how big the shop is, here is one side of the building. There are another six service bay doors on the other side of the building

As you can see, MTI is BIG and modern.
