Re: Stripped Connecting Rod Bolt
I'm guessing you mean you stripped the head (rounded off the corners) and not the threads.
You can use a Dremel to grind those edges flat again and use a smaller socket, or get a wrench on it.
were you using 12-point sockets? If so, get rid of them and stick with 6-point sockets.

Hammer an 11mm 6-point socket on it! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Or you can always take a hacksaw to it... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Stripped Connecting Rod Bolt
well, i tried the dremel idea..that didnt work. Tried hammering on a socket, that didnt work. And I tried the JB weld but it just wont stand up to the torque necessary to remove the bolt. Any other ideas???? please.

Man, you must have really stripped that bolt good! Is the block out of the car? Sounds like you are going to have to locate a welding shop nearby, probably cost you $10 or they might do it for free to help ya out.
Any exhaust shop has welders too.

i agree with mightymouse,
take a cut off wheel on a right angle air grinder and carefully cut off the head of the bolt. all the torque is on the head, once it is removed, the bolt should just back out easily. unless the threads are damaged.

Have you tried "Sonic Weld"??? Find it at NAPA stores. I do all of my exhaust testing jigs with it. It should stand up to the torque.
That stuff is STRONG. Makes JB Weld look like silly putty.

Have you tried a set of vise-grips. Get a set with some teeth on the jaws and clamp them down until it feels like there going to break. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> If that doesn't do it you're f**ked. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
