Is this cam (236@50 108lsa) possible in stock bottom end LS1 without flycutting pistons?

Damn. All I can say is good luck with that.

Why would you want to go that big with a stock cubed motor anyway?

Preach on Brotha Denz! dude really I can't see going anyting bigger than a 230 cam myself. Would be interesting to see someone try it though.

I asked because an engine builder was telling me this is the cam he's sticking in a motor.
I was amazed and didn't/couldn't believe him but didn't want to call it BS without knowing.

I thought that with a cam with that much duration the valves would be getting very aquainted with the piston.

LOL. No kidding Mark. I'd love to see what t would do...just not on my car.

I'd say he's feeding you a serious line of BS. I'm not sure on the piston/valve clearance, but I'll make a bet that it won't work without cutting the pistons.

I'd like to see a 108lsa idle too. It could probably be done, but it sure as well wouldn't be fun.

We have used 110 LSA on a heap of street LS1's, they idle like they should!! (we are bogging up the lower portion of the port and manifold though!!)

Id say 108 is "almost" getting to the point of silly, but that duration is way cool!!

Without modelling it up in computer software (time), I'd agree that there's a big chance that you will have to flycut...108 centre's, been done, but very lopey...go for 112 or? My o.o2c worth (may cost up to 0.04c in Australia!)
Cheers

You'll be okay with that duration if you have a low lift. Several people have used the ASA cam with like 240+ duration @.050" but they used a stock lift (around .500"). Fly cuts are needed when you combine large duration and high lift. A friend of mine got fly cut pistons with his with his setup and a 230/236 cam but he also has .591/.601" lift.

[EDIT]: That's a lot of duration for your stock motor. You'll have to spin way past 7000 rpms to get the most out of that cam. Your stock bottom end won't handle 7k+ for very long.

with a 108 LSA it sounds like an old school SBC race cam. our motors are VERY different and the motor builder sounds inexperienced with LS1 motors. anything over 230 on a 346" motor is way past the point of diminishing returns. bye bye TQ.

but then again, all the "ls1 gearheads" said a year and a half ago, that is is a waste of time to run a cam any bigger than the 221 T1/B1 cam! LOL!
