Ryan I agree.
A 3.9/3.9 motor with LS6 heads and a healthy cam will make KILLER power..

Someone please make a nobular stroker crank?

JS, Scat in fact did make a short run of 3.900 stroke cranks for Mallet. Call them up and see if they still have some around, they did last year. They only needed the reluctor wheel pressed on. I think they were $2000-2200 ish.

Cola had some LS1 cranks at the PRI show at the beginning of this year.

John I dont need a 4340......

There not needed for N/A applications and too $$$.I figure 1000 should be fair for a nodular 3.90 stroke..Will see if anyone releases one?

I'd buy arp 2000 rods bolts,a set of 01 LS6 pistons, rings and bearings. That would complete the setup along with a balance of the whole assembly too.

Then add my Cartek X heads and a wicked cam----->232/232 610/610?

I still say a 375 stroker would be awesome.
Mickey C5 has one and its run 10's rowing threw the gears. His cam is small and his setup is 2+ yrs old.His setup is impressive.

With the advances now I bet it would run very well in a properly setup car....

Someone please release a cheap, strong crank

John, end of last year scat was supposed to come out with a cheap cast crank for the LS1. they didnt do it. who knows why...you'd think they'd at least try it and reap the benifits...i'd buy one if the price was right.

ps. no, you probably wouldnt feel the difference between 490 and 520 unless you had 490, then 520. but in hindsight after the money was spend, would you kick yourself for not getting the biggest and baddest. a lunati kit is 3500 or so right...+ or -? a resleeved block usually runs close to 2500 or 3000 depending on sleeve quality. add pistons at abotu 800 and youre real close to the same short block price. and as long as you dont want 800-900rwhp...you wont necessarily reap the benifits of a forged crank and/or rods. then its all in the heads/cam. both big motors can handle larger cams but you will see more gain from opening up heads for an all-bore than you will for an all stroke. you will be limited by chamber size and valve size. i mean...its all preference. but we could say the same about iron blocks..sure they're good for 30 cubes but the weight can be an issue. plus ive heard of a guy with a built iron motor throw a rod through the block. im getting off track. whether you want the most efficient optimum set up is up to you...but as an auto guy i want a slightly more peaky set up with a high HP number that i can stay at all day long with my converter. 6-speed 'autocrossers' want broad power and think a huge crank and sideloading will get them there....it does...but for the same cash they could have 30-40 more HP. what would you want.

Hey John,
I'm from Australia, do you know the company name here that is supposed to be doing it? If so, I'll call them and find out.
Cheers.

John, and others,

I called C.O.M.E. (Chev Offroad Marine Engines) here in Australia. They have been around a long time, doing stroker cranks for 800 HP Holden V8's, and have been around drag racing a long time too. I remember buying parts from them back in 1977! (Am I that old? )
Anyway, Sam who runs it, had a long conversion with him. His Nodular stroker LS1 crank will be available before Xmas. It will sell for under A$1,500. Thats about US$840 or less! 4 inch stroker only, so with a 3.900" bore LS1, gives you 382 cubes.
Also, they will be offering rods and pistons to go with that as a kit if you want. Rods will be as good or better than whats available now he said. Premium stuff.
Also, next year they will be offering BILLET stroker LS1 cranks, up to 4.25" stroke, for less than A$3,000 = US1,680 or less. I don't think anyone is doing BILLET cranks right now that I know of. They will be true Billets, from 4340 material he said.
Why so cheap? Our dollar is crap, plus Australia specialises in high quality, low volume parts. We have to, as we are are half a world away from any other Western world country.
They will not be selling these parts in the USA, so you will have to buy direct, or through someone like us.
Good stuff!
PS: the Billet cranks can be done to ANY stroke you want on a one-off basis. Does anyone know for sure what is the MAXIMUM stroke you can fit into an LS1 block, before you get into lower cylinder wall clearance issues and smaller base circle camshaft issues? I know 4.25" is the max' offered right now, but is it possible to go 4.375" or even 4.5"?? Just thinking aloud....

Has anyone offset ground a standard crank?
If so what did they end up with?
This would surely be a cheap way of getting some extra cubes.

Agostino has offset ground some stock cranks to get 10 or so cubes out of them.

Here is what my dynos look like thru the SLP dual-dual vs open cutouts, I ran 10.85 @ 125 thru the muffler, then 10.67 @ 128 on the very next pass just by opening the cutouts.

Thats alot of area under the curve!

Looks good Tony. I just think the old SOTP meter might not register at those power levels. Thats when the SEG(**** Eating Grin) meter takes over.

Since it was being discussed in this thread I gotta question for ya. Has MTI ever built any iron block 422+ ci motors with the stage III LS6 heads. What type of power difference have they seen between comparable iron block and aluminum setups? Just curious.

Thanks

Will Race 4 Food - Sounds like some interesting stuff coming outta of Australia in the near future. Good info.

Thanks

John

You can tell the difference between 490 and 520 RWHP if you have sticky tires. If you're on radials, it's hard to compare the amount of wheelspin. LOL

Will Race 4 Food - That's some excellent info about nodular cranks from COME! Definitely keep us updated as you find out more information.

My old notes.. off an old thread...

LA Enterprises was making an LS1 Crank at some point I 'think'. Contact phone # 562 926-0434.

Haven't called them in 6 months. Someone might want to check.
