Default Car finally started after LONG cam/head install campaign, but idle???

The idle was bumped up with ls1edit to set the desired idle speed to 950 (a little high, but figured it should be plenty for the T1). For some reason it won't idle on it's own. If I hold the gas lightly it will start and stay running.

All the connections seem good on the throttle body/air filter. What gives? I can't even get the thing to idle long enough on it's own to back it up, lol. HELP!

Did you drill a 5/8" hole in the butterfly yet?

Most everyone I know has to do this to get the T1 to idle.

with the raised idle...it might be having trouble with the IACs...look at ATAP (IAC pintle position)

I *might* consider 5/16 but 5/8 is a big hole!

Yup, check IAC with AutoTap, and adjust the blade opening (through drilling) until they settle out at about 40.

The IAC motor pintle position is at about 133 right now, the car is idling now though. It just stalls out easily though. Any pictures to guide me through what needs done?

I've learned now that until I figure it out I can throw it into N at the lights and give it extra gas then slide into D when its time to go.

the hole in the middle of the throttle blade needs to be opened up. Not sure on the size...but figure out what size it is now, and drill it the next size up. install the TB, check the IAC count, and repeat if necessary until your IACs are down in the 40-50 range

I've gotten a T1 to idle with stock programming. Are you sure you have no vacuum leaks? Go and drive it around. The computer took us about 50 miles to learn the cam.

i have a T1 and ls1edit programming. my idle is set at 900 and i still had to drill the throttle body hole out. i don't know what size i did. it was fairly large though and the car idles great now.

This could be a stupid question, but do you have the AC running? After my H/C install it would occasionally die shifting from D to anything else. It also wouldn't start with the A/C on--tried the old remote starter with the A/C on to cool of the car in the AZ inferno in which I live--damn. The computer did eventually learn the cam. Whenever I unplug the battery and reset the cpu, it tends to act up again.

As far as revving it to keep it from stalling....that doesn't help the computer learn it. The logic they use will expect you to rev it all the time to keep it from stalling. The revs can drop suprisingly low (as long as there's minimal load) without stalling--I'm talking my tach has seen 2-300 rpm without stalling. Granted it blips a couple of times, but it eventually settles at normal idle. Also, if you are driving around with the AC on, don't turn it off to shift from D. This seems like it would help (reducing engine load should help keep the idle up), but it actually promotes stalling. I don't know why.

Everyone else in this post has covered the rest (vacuum, IAC counts, throttle body hole, etc.) good luck, and keep us posted as to what fixes it.

Well, that solved it! I used a 1/4 inch drill bit and drilled out the hole. I then set the idle to 850 and voila! It sounds like a BEAUT! All the headaches and pain have finally paid off! Now the real work begins, it has to prove itself at the track and dyno! Of course, first I'll do a bit of tuning it in with Edit. I should be able to rev much higher than stock now.

Thanks all
