Why not sell the heads (which may take a while) and buy some MTI stage 2's to go along with that MTI cam. ARE's work VERY poorly with other peoples cam's because they grind their cams in a way that make comparably HP by band-aid'ing their poor heads. I apologize if that hurts peoples feelings or gets me in trouble with nick. Throw on some MTI 2.055/1.60 S2's or GTP 2.02/1.57 S2's with 918's. 430rwhp would be easy. LS1_Edit wouldnt be a bad idea either.

Thanks for the suggestion Ryan but I am not going to do that for financial reasons. I will just get the most out the the heads with tuning / cam and leave it.

any one have an easy way to contact Nick @ ARE? I would like to get in touch with him before I really start in on this.

I have been looking at track times also, not just dyno numbers. Barely making 11's with 117 traps on an M6 supports my opinion on design flaws in ARE's heads. Those are the numbers I have been seeing, even if you look at ARE's website under their customer's with the same setup.

just an opinion here...but you're all better off calling MTI or Thunder Racing. PROVEN combo's time and time again. Good service and pricing also.

I'm looking around 415-430 rwhp and the torque around 400, I want to run mid -low 11's

I wonder how far MTI or TR is from Toronto Canada?? oh damn that's way too far Texas & Baton Rouge ...

This is not good, Guess Im stuck with ARE, great!!!

Then that would explain it

sorry my bad, wow 2.08....why are they going that route.. What???? Are they expecting, all of their customers will be getting bigger cubed engines???

Then I guess I will have to ship the car to MTI or TR(from Toronto Canada, Hell expensive) once I'm ready

What about Cartek??

If you're interested in TR or MTI, you can always order the package and have it installed somewhere closer to you. JPR, Speed Inc., Cartek, etc. Both TR and MTI will work with you over the phone to pick a package that suits your needs. If you're not happy with your choices locally, I definitely wouldn't go with them just because they're closer! JMO

What heads do you guys think I should go with since I have the TR224 cam, TR S2's? Man to think I almost wasted my money on some ARE S2 with 2.08 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

Alot of good being said about MTI and GTP....what about Cartek? Their heads seem to put up good numbers. I've narrowed my choices down to these three.

Cartek is a good shop. good dyno numbers and track times. keep in mind though that MTI and GTP users (TR uses GTP heads) are pretty spread out, most really fast Cartek set-ups have been tuned by Cartek and are local. Same with MMS. Coincidence perhaps...who knows. Locality can become a factor when choising shops as well (as you can see with Cartek), but dont let that rule your decision.

First thing I do when i want to spend money somewhere is call that shop. If the service sucks, why should they get your money?

2.08's are such a waste. "great on a stroker later" what the **** ever. IF you went from a 346 with heads and cam and later went with a larger bore you WOULD NEED head work to see proper gains. the chamber would need to be opened up to the proper size. 2.055 are the absolute biggest i would ever go. and the only reason id get those is because thats what MTI uses. Nick uses the 2.08's to boost flow numbers.

and yes, MANY a 221-224 cam'd cars with stock heads have hit 375-395rwhp. its not hard. the cams just work. I saw a guy dyno with stock heads, the normal boltons, 17x11's, and STOCK tuning this 400rwhp....with a B1. magic? bs? nope.

what about the dyno's TR puts out. 420rw from GTP heads and the 224? and MTI's countless 400+RWHP cars with nothing but a HPP3. a local guy here dyno'd a 417 in april of 2000 with S2 ehads and a T1. LS1 intake. After adding 4.10's over his 3.42's, an LS6 intake and a mufflex catback over his cutout (untouched mac's with stock collector BTW), he makes 43x as of today. pretty good for a 2 year old set up. just FYI to all those looking at this thread for guidance.

what makes it worse is guys like ezss goes in thinking he's got the absolute **** when it comes to heads...now the guy doesnt return calls or emails, his power blows, and he's unhappy.

ARE LS1. didnt realize $ was a factor. I wouldnt go buy another set of heads either, man. That cam should work nicely when tuned properly. you may want to try to pick up an XE-R 228/228. its big, but it would make up for the disparity in power your experiencing. TR has a 230/224, 227/227. MTI has a 230/227. RagingMS has a 230/230.
