I have found a person that would be willing to make cast LS1 intakes for the LS1 price would be around 425 or so and would be geared mainly toward the larger ci LS1's. He is willing to try to lay something out but wants to know what we would like in the intake design. They will be a very nice looking one it will have a machined finish. It will have injector bungs and will also have holes for a direct port setup but can be blocked off. So who would be in?

I mean this is something that can really be done. The guy builds these things for alot of people I am letting him use my stock block and heads to get something rolling but we need to discuss runner length and plenum vol. If we come up with something he is willing to get something rolling very soon. So lets start this and get this rolling because I also need a intake.

He's not going to get a single commitment until he produces a working model...
soliciting support will then be very easy.
Until then, I wouldn't try and drum up support for something that doesn't yet exist

Well I am not building it. I just need to find something to feed my 422. I found someone and thought I could let others in on it. Im not trying to get a set number of people interested because he will build 1 or 1 million how ever many. Kinda hard to get a working model with out knowing what people want huh?

First, the proper design must be established through testing and R&D then patterns and molds must be made. The tooling costs alone for a sand cast core are substantial let alone programming and cnc machine set up. I don't see this as economical for $450 each with all the costs involved and such low quantities.
I am sure Holley spent major $$ developing their new manifold, and how many have they sold?

Well this guy said 300 to 500 max he said probably around 450. He is working right now on designs. He owns the tooling so he isnt worried about setup cost because once he has something worked out he has no problem waiting a while to start to show profit.

Well everyone that is interested lets start talking about what we need/want in a intake and I will pass on the word.I talked with him tonight he lives right down the road from me. Here is what we have came up with so far.
1. No egr
2. Still will retain stock injector angle
3. Stock TB placment but larger opening like 80/85mm
4. It will still use O-ring style gaskets
5. It will have direct port bungs but you can cap those off if you dont spray the car
He plans to use the LS6 as a base for this then find some way to increase flow and not loose power like most sheet metals out there now. This will be a direct bolt in, you wont have to modify anything.

1. Must use stock manifold gaskets
2. Inlet must be portable to 85mm
3. Stock injector angle so as to keep stock rails
4. Must have correct plumbing in back for MAP sensor
Is this going to be an open plenum style or more a improvement over the LS6?
From my discussions with folks on intake, runner length is still hotly debated.
5. Tapered runners are supposed to be a good idea.

Well his shop isn't a one man show and as far as back ups there would be none, if we could come up with something. He will have these in stock the first run will go on my car to be dynoed if it shows results it will go into production. After that he will probably make around 20 of them the first time and then more if it is needed. For the people interested I talked with him today, and he has something in mind. Also he wants to make the plenum and runners two seprate units so you could maybe down the road change out a diffrent plenum or runners.

Unfortunately I must agree with the 'business-sense' side of things. I'd love to see another intake manifold. However, a $450 intake 'for a friend' can get really ugly when you have a 100 unit back order and they take you 20 hours each to build... For a one-off, you can charge as much or as little as you want, and take a few weeks to complete. For production, though, it becomes a matter of maintaining the financial incentive to actually meet and complete production. I can think of several "failed" examples of this... Edelbrock LT1 intake manifold, Incon Twin Turbo system, Canfield LT1 heads, JPR Waterpump, etc... Examples of 'good' ideas that were produced, but the revenue was not there to follow through, and some of the companies went as far as to quit the product and leave some customers high and dry.
That would be my primary concern, especially with a one-man show.
Just my $.02. Oh, after looking very closely at my Holley intake, I don't see how they sell it so cheap. Man, that's got a lot of machining, tooling, and interesting molding processes (2-piece or more) going on with it, for such a low volume piece.
