Default All I wanted to know was what the best cam would be..

....for my heads. I got some answers from those who have the heads, & I'm taking that into consideration. Most of what I got was alot of opinions from guys who clearly dont like ARE. I dont care who you like or dont like, just give me an opinion on cam, not all the other crap.

I admit, that I am the one who made the mistake of picking the cam, that didn't go with the heads. I've spoken to Barry, & we will fix the problem. I apologize to ARE for the grief they had had to endure as a result of my poor choice of cams, and by the negative statements made by my fellow forum members..

Have a good day. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

The MTI X1 cam 230/227 .591/.571 112lsa would do bad *** with stage 2 heads or the fastech F1 cam 230/226 .591/.569 112lsa make bad *** power.

I would either go with what Chris recommended. The 226/234 on the XE-R lobes or one of the Reverse Split cams out there. Also, I apologize for all the hoopla. There is nothing wrong with your heads. You just have to find the right cam to go along with it. The hard part is w/out knowing all the specs of your heads it will be difficult. I do not mean your valves. I mean your flow characteristics. Ask Nick what cam would best suit those heads. He should have all the swirl, tumble, intake cc, etc.

I'd ask Nick about

228/232 or 228/234 or

Maybe 230/234 for a max effort.

I ran the 226/234 .554/.575 112LSA cam in my car with ARE Stage II 2.08/1.60 heads for over a year making 417rwhp/398rwtq. A year later on a different dyno I made 410rwhp/390rwtq, so my power was consistantly over 400rwhp with LS1 heads and a full exhaust system.

The cam had a very nice lump to it, but with proper PCM tuning idled and drove perfectly around town and in traffic, etc. The low end power this cam made was also VERY good and I used the car for quite a bit of autocrossing and roadracing and it pulled like mad coming out of the corners at lower RPMs. I could even chug along in 6th gear at 1500rpms without any problems. I bet this cam profile is even better on the XE-R lobes, as mine was just one of the Lunati grinds from a few years back!

My car pulls like a beast down low too and has great driveability when tuned.
I also run the 226/234 112LSA cam. I think this cam would work great in your car.

I also like the 226/234 112 referenced above (my former cam). Now I'm running the 228/234 588/598 112.

Dave did you notice and drivability differences with that cam or any dyno improvements over the old 226/234?
thanks!

Nick picked out a 240/240 .610/.610 114 for my motor.

Why don't you try that? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Chris, I haven't dyno'd since that cam went in. As far as idle, driveability, etc, it's identical to the other cam.

I also have the 226/234 554/575 112 cam. I had my idle adjusted to 1k rpm, rides really smooth no problems. I was told going with much more lift on that type of duration/lsa might present clearance problems, so 230/226 591/xxx type cams would be risky, and may not clear. Good luck.

PS Im sure ARE didnt endure any grief over our little debate.

Sunshine: either sell the heads and get some better ones or call Nick and ask him what he recomends.

Whatever the turn out your car is still going to be a strong contender. I would go with a proven combo. Nick ARE should be able to tell you the cam that would work best for your combo.
