Default Any 382 All bore's out there?

I'm just curious, when you built your 382 did you use stock rods w/ upgraded bolts or would you recomend some aftermarket rods? What bearings would/do you run? I want to spin to 7000, shift ~6800 or so, I think the stock crank is OK there, but the rods I dunno about... I would prefer reliability also

BTW I'm asking for no reason at all

I'll have mine in a few more days

I went with Lunati Pro-Mod rods and ARP hardware, since mine is built a little more on the ragged edge than most, and I plan on turning mine close to 8000rpm.

I've heard from reliable sources that the stock rods tested well up to ~7300rpm or so with no problems (using aftermarket hardware). The cheesy stock rod bolts are the "weak link." I don't think you'd have any reliability issues with stock rods, as long as you install the ARP rod bolts.

I know Nineball's old 382 all-bore MTI motor used stock rods. I can't remember how high he used to spin that motor, but I'm sure he can jump in and set the record straight...

My 99 C5 with an all bore 388 is on a truck coming home from MMS. I went with upgraded rods on mine. Redline is set at 6800-6900 rpm so I didn't feel comfortable with stock ones.

Hmmm after some consideration, I'll probly have the stock rods inspected/cleaned up and install some ARP hardwear, What about bearings? What seems to be the popluar choice? Obviously a Katech oil pump, what about rockers? I've heard bad things about the stockers, but I don't want 1.8's and I don't really wanna spend the money for Jesel's, but I will if it's needed. I was thinking something along the lines of som stage II heads, possibly LS6's. Still looking for some form of reliability, and I know the horsepower will be dependant on the cam choice, possibly something in the 226 range. Should give good power w/ plenty of room for growth later Any opinions?

I owned the first 382ci all-bore ever built, and we built it as an experiment, so we used the stock rods and ARP rod bolts. It made 455 rwhp corrected, and I shifted it at 6600 rpm. My rev-limiter is 7K, and I hit it a few times for the hell of it, no problems.

Stock rods should be fine as long as you have no plans to spray the motor, I felt plenty safe with them as long as the ARP bolts were in, they actually are pretty nice rods for a stock motor.

No need for a Katech oil pump, most shops know how to port/shim the stock pumps to provide more pressure. My MTI-modified ones have worked great. I'd opt for the Jesel street/strip rockers and dual valvesprings if I were you. Just for piece of mind.

Yeah I wasn't planning on spraying, but if I did it would be a small shot, 100 wet or something like that. Well I suppose since I'll be saving the $$ on aftermarket rods I could put it twards the jesel's... why dual springs? I was going to look for heads with awesome low lift flow (like that CNC LS6 from SCDPC) with a low lift decent duration cam so that the valvetrain wouldn't have to work as hard, just kinda peace of mind I guess Don't want to have to worry about anything if possible!
