Default LT1 to LS1 swap, whats involved?

Hello all. My 94 Z28 is getting a little worn down, after my recent minor front end damage, I am swapping to a 98+ front end. Since I have had my 2002 SS, my LT1 just doesn't seem worth the effort anymore, I am tired of hunting down misses and opti problems. What is involved in the swap besides the motor, K-frame, and PCM. I have an unused LT1 Tubular K-frame I am going to swap to a LS1, and my A/C will be removed shortly. What problems will I run into? Is the fuel system useable from the LT1, I know that the fuel lines route differently. Will it be pretty straight forward? Thanks for the info and help.

transmission, wiring harness.

Plus the engine itself cost a good bit more than your LT1.

If you are sick of dealing with problems yourself you would probably be better off to find a good local shop and pay them for a motor rebuild, etc.

I planned on buying Just the block, intake, fuel system, since I am doing a stroker anyway, everything else will be new including the LS6 heads. What problems are there with the tranny? I was told the 4L60E will bolt right up to an LS1, with only minor adjustments. Wiring harness shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Why have 2 of the same car? Swap a turbo Buick V6 in the red car... a guy that hangs out at my work's got one that would make that car fly.

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh, tuuuuuuuuurbo, buuuuiiiick. YES! That would be sweet, and I thought about one day putting one in a firebird. I know nothing about them though, or their availability, maintenance, reliability, etc. It wuld be sweet though!

I am not sure on the 4l60e - on the t-56 the input shaft is a different length. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a neat idea. Personally if I were going to do a swap like that it would be to put in a 434 stroker smallblock instead - but to each their own!

Put a carbed motor in it. 540 would look nice in the engine bay, with no ac, etc....

I'd stick with the LT1 and do the stroker. Most of the sponsors seem to have moved on to LS1 and don't seem to do much LT1 stuff anymore.

An LT1/LT4 396 stroker can make excellent power with good heads!

I am definately keeping it Fuel Injected. Right now it seems to be between a Turbo Buick or a stroker LS1. I am leaning towards the Turbo Buick just to be different, because when I finally got to working on my 2002 I would end up with two built LS1's. Besides I always wanted a GN or Turbo TA, why not a Turbo Z. I could imagine the responses I would get with a 94 Z28 with no Badges, a 98+ front end, Ultra Z hood, and V6 POWAA windshield banner, LOL! That would be a trip.

Ever driven a modded GN? They feel so much better than any LS1. A stock GN with bolt-ons makes more low-end than an all bore 382. (450-480 torque at the wheels).

Of course if you don't like misses and wiring problems.. lol.. stay the hell away from a GN motor.
