Default newbie here/ have a cam selection and p/v clearance question

I'm in the process of putting and LS1 in my car. I currently selected a comp grind 224/228 581/581 112 cam. I want the car to run good and motor and pickup alot on a 150 shot. I will also run a stage 1 ported 5.7 head. I was thinking about going to a more agressive cam. Maybe a 226/232 581/581 on a 112. I don't want to over cam the motor. I'm willing to spin motor to 6700-6800 rpm. This would be in a A4 with a 4.10 gear and 4000 stall. Was also wondering how much I can mill heads without p/v clearing issues. This is a stock shortblock also.

you should be fine to 30-40 thousandths.

I have .040 off my 5.3 heads with 2.02 valves and with a 232/232 cam it required .020 flycut but I had .170 clearance on the exhuast. so the 232 on the exhaust should be fine. 228-230 or smaller should be fine on the intake w/o flycutting

How much compression would I have milling the heads .030 how about .040???

I will probably look into a bigger cam than what I have.

Thanks for replies.

Most people find they need more help on the intake side than exhaust with ported LS1 heads. For your aggressive cam try 228/228 or 228/232 112 using comp XE-R lobes.

I believe that .030 gets you 10.8:1 and .040 gets 11.1:1. I've got a set of heads shaved .040 and plan on using a cam very similar to the second one you mentioned.

i have 0.050 off stock heads with a 224 cam. everything is good with the shorter rods right now. i wouldnt go over that. with a large cam, i would look more towards 0.030.
