Ok, this doesn't pertain to my LS1 but I'm sure you internal engine guys can help me out anyway. My Mom has a '94 Cougar. She took it to the shop today and they told her she has blown head gaskets. They also quoted her a price of $1,000 to fix it. That sounds ridiculous to me. Maybe I'm wrong though. I'm not a mechanic, but I am competent to say the very least. I'd like to repair this myself since we don't have a grand to cough up. Can anyone tell me what this entails. I have never done anything internally before so any and all suggestions/comments are welcome.

Okay dude I just looked it up. That car uses the Ford 3.8 Liter motor which as long as your car has under 100k in some cases under 130k on it you can take it under a recall I believe that is on all ford 3.8 head gaskets. If you car is out of this 100k bracket the reason its gonna cost you 1k is because the mechanic has to send your head away to get redone so to speak.

Thanks for helping me out. I appreciate it. I'll call the dealer and find out if this can be fixed under the recall. If not, it might be time for a new car.

Doh I did find the recall page but it looks like you are outa luck since it ended almost two years ago. I would still check with ford.
