Default cam install

im installing a new cam in my 99 ls1 and was wondering if i should replace the stock springs... ive been told i dont have too but also not to put a harder spring in cause it might cause problems... the specs are 232/230 dur. @.050 .580"/.580" lift 110 lsa and im running long tube pasesetter headers with off road y-pipe, with slp loudmount exhuast and 373 gears... also would like to know if anyone knows numbers for this before i get it tuned!

stock springs have no place in a STOCK cammed car let alone any performance cam. DEF. REPLACE THE SPRINGS with a set made to match that cam. stock heads and dynojet you'll prolly be in the upper 300's. guess would be 390RWHP dynojet.

+1. You absolutley HAVE to change the springs. The stock springs are barely good enough for a stock cam. as for numbers...i say 380whp with an auto, 390 with a manual.

still need convincing.....YES...although pushrods could be optional. HP wise, I say 385 if it runs ok.. 400+ if you have a good runner, with all bolt ons,m6

they are right about the numbers because you will also be running a lower lift cam. But just like others have said you need to replace the springs.

if you dont replace the springs you will probably lose the motor. THe stock springs will likely go into coil bind, the pushrods will bend up or the valves will hit the pistons, and some nice vendor will receive a check for $3400 for a new motor from you

This is a must, for any cam install, you'll be a very unhappy camper, if you do a cam swap, and the stock springs aren't changed out.
