OK, so what exactly does a spun bearing sound like? - My car makes a "loud" Ticking noise that sounds like its comming from the lower driver's side towards the rear. i thought it was an exhaust leak but i cant find a hole in the header, collector, or pipe and the collector is screwed as tight as i can get it. i was told it could be a lifter which i plan on replacing when i do h/c. I checked rockers and springs, they looked fine. i didnt pull out the pushrods tho... i think ill do that this weekend, that damn tick keeps gettin louder.

I joined the club almost a year ago when my oil pump went south on me. Parked it for a few months and then started to pull it apart to take the engine out the top. Bought a new folding hoist and assembled it in my living room. The next weekend I went out of town for a vacation and broke my leg. Five months and two surgeries later I go out to look at the engine and all of the bores have rust. And the hoist is still sitting in my living room

I am new here. Actually I think this is my first post. I am in the process of looking for a LS1 and have been reading about them. After I read the, don't be afraid of a high mileage LSX engine, and how they have proven themselves. I read this thread with people spinning rod bearings at 14,000 miles. And after a new crate motor swap? WTF? I can live with the rearends blow up in these cars cause they are junk, but spun bearings?
I so far I have read that putting a LS6 oil pump or similar unit in it will help and new rod bolts will help take care of the problem. Are both of these things possible with the engine in the car still together? I was a mechanic for 9 years up until last year when I hired on my local police department. I have never worked on an LSx engine. I have worked on a bunch of LT1's. I know the only similarities is they both are made by chevy and thats it.
I'd really like to have one of these, but not if they blow up on a regular basis.
And yes, if I get one, I will be driving the hell out of it.
Thanks.

I love your last statement: "And yes, if I get one, I will be driving the hell out of it."
Yes, you can swap the oil pumps with the engine still in the car and I do believe that you can swap the rod bolts. I think you just need to drop the oil pan.
Good Luck!![Thumb](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/thumb.gif)

Got the car back about a week ago with a brand new LS1 engine. Can't drive it like crazy until I break her in though!!![Sad](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_sad.gif)

How can you tell if you have a spun bearing. I first though I had a problem in my heads. I had a sound coming from the Driver Side. Once I openning it up I found what looked to be a bad spring. So I installed New push rods from Thunder Racing, Harland Sharp Roller Rockers and Comp Cams Valve Spring. I am still having the same problem. When I pulled the filter and cut it open there was all kinds of goodies in there. Alot of Copper and metal stuff. Any help would be great.

If you have lots of metal, thats a pretty good indication right there. Hard to say because there will always be something in the filter, just depends on what "a lot of goodies" means. The easiest way for me to tell is watching the oil pressure guage. (in my case). I am a freak about watching the oil pressure in anything I have ever owned. I knew when mine was going south before it even started knocking. The oil pressure would fluctuate waaaaay too much. A slightly spun rod bearing will make a very faint tick. Its really hard to tell what it is if its not bad. I would get a sample of oil and have it sent off. That would tell you real quick what all "them goodies" are in your oil. It also may save you a bunch of work.
for what its worth. I spun the lucky #8.

Hi, my name is Chuck, and I spin bearings... In March 2004 I spun #5 & 6 in my stock shortblock, then in April 2006 it started knocking again. I didn't get the motor out until this past weekend, and #5 spun, with 6 getting REAL close.
It appears to be high rpm oil starvation, either from lack of drainback, or high G starvation...

I'm having a H/C/I swap done as I type this.. I opted OUT of changing the rod bolts. It's a 99 motor with 97k, I plan to shift about 6400. I did go with the ported LS6 pump, and a high quality oil. The car was never really beat on before, I don't know if it evr saw more than 6k rpm's stock or stock/headers. I don't know, I've also heard swapping out bolts can itself be the cause of spinning bearings if the big end isn't resized.
