WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
Had the cam and valvetrain for a month and took it to Ed Wrights and everything was great. Went to the track and the car ran just fine there and back. ALthough when i was driving home from school today I heard a clicking noise coming from the motor. I have Comp 918's and titanium retainers, arnt they strong, i thought...and a 230/224 111 cam. WTF is the deal and why do you guys think it broke. BTW, I have only been spinning the cam up to 6400, so i know it hasnt been from spinning it to high, please help

Re: WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
Are you sure it's broken? A noisier valve train is expected from a cam/head swap.
I've never broken a spring (not yet) but I hear it's pretty obvious, the SES light is supposed to flash and the car runs real crappy.
Again, I've never broken a spring but have read quite a bit about it.

Re: WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
After my cam install, my valvetrain did not get really loud until about 2-3 weeks later. I pulled the valve covers three times checking for loose rockers, but never found any. I have now just learned to accept it. Hopefully it is the same in your case.
Good luck,
Kevin

Re: WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
if you have atap log for misfires... if one cyl has like 60-100+ then its probably a broken spring..
my car just seemed like it had a VERY BAD misfire when mine broke.. you could also have one cracked but possibly not be able to see it.
then again it could just be a loud valve train. But if your car feels like a slug check the springs ASAP!! see my broken 918 post below
comp wants me to send in my broken 918 so they can figure out why it broke. But a few 918's have been snapping

Re: WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
THanks guys, but it is not a noisy valvetrain, it is a very very very loud knock, ticking noise, coming from the passenger side. My good friend who has a 11 flat T/A and is a mechanic said he is 99% sure it is a broken spring, he has broken two. Hopefully it is a loose rocker, but i doubt it.

Re: WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
When I broke my 941 the SES light started flashing, and the car felt like a 4 cylinder....
Ran like ****, would barely start, etc, loud "broken" sound coming from the valvecover

Re: WTF!!!! Broken Valve Spring
I broke a dual Rev valve right after my head and cam install. With the dual spring, I drove it a few miles to get it home. She was misfiring and running like ****, SES light looked like a UFO and would barely idle. If you have a single spring setup, whatever you do, don't drive it. Get that valve cover off and check for a cracked or broken spring and replace it. Check the compression of that cylinder to make sure you didn't bend the valve.
