Default ARE cam is installed!!

Took out the TR224, put in the cam recomended by Wade. I was asked not to give the specifics on the cam. But it is in the 230-236 range that he originally quoted me, lift around .600. On the XE-R grind.

I will say that the idle is better than with the TR, which is odd, considering that it is way bigger. Too early to tell on the power, as I only have 2 heat cycles in. One more in the morning, then I change the oil & let it rip.

Might be able to get some track times this week & dyno. Big thanks to Wade on the selection.

By the way, stage 2 ARE heads were milled minimal, and there was no problem with P to V clearance. I'll post when I have more to report.

That is odd that it idles better. The TR ramp rate is very close to the XE-R and the lower lift might even help at lower rpms.

What do you idle at?

Keep this thread updated on how drivability is once you get a few miles on it.

definately interested in the results .. I was thinking of going that big myself (well I was looking at a 230/236 with like 590 lift I think), but I was told I would have P/V clearance. Do you have the 2.08 intake valves?

Keep us posted.

Im not saying that it is perfect. When I put it in gear, it sometimes wants to stall. In Park, it is great, idles at 900. Doesnt seem to hunt for idle, like the TR. In gear it sometimes surges, so there are some tuning issues, but I had those issues even after tuning on the other cam.

I have 2.05 intake valves. Once again, on my heads, there was minimal miled off, just enough to clean up.

I'm interested in if my MPH and ET increases, that's the bottom line. So, the jury is still out.

are you sure you have the 2.05s? Thats what I thought I was getting too, but I was latetr told all the stage IIs were shipping with 2.08s. Thats distressing to me if you have the 2.05s and are still making low power -- i was thinking about making the switch to those valves.

Good stuff, looking forward to hearing the results. The new lobe cams really dont idle all that bad for the duration numbers you can get hehehe
Cheers,
Chris

Yes, 2.055 valves. I didn't measure them, if that's what you mean.

Chris, email me a # I can call you at when I get there. I'm shooting for Tue if they can fit me in, so I'll stay at the Holiday Inn most likely, tomorrow night. So I can get to ARE early Tue morning. Got to call tomorrow to confirm a day.

Sorry.. I forgot to mention, it is a 112.

Is 4 heat cycles & 100 miles going to be enough of a break in? That's what it'll have in the morning.

sounds great! How high are you planning on revving it? I figured you would've had to notch your pistons. Do you have any figures on the clearance?

I dont plan to take it over 6600. I guess I'll know more about what my limit is when I get it tuned. I'll let them tell me what is safe.

I dont have any figures on clearance. I asked Wade on every call (about 5-6)if there would be any problems, and he assured me that they have run this cam already, and with the minumal amount taken off the heads (just enough to clean them up) I would be just fine. He was right, there is no problem in that area. I hope that doesn't change when on the spray.

That will be Fri, Sat, Sun, or all of the above. One of the days racing is until midnight, so that might be a good night.
