Time to Speak - 26918 Spring Failures
If anybody in the Houston area has one fail and would like a metallurgist to look at it, I can take it out to the refinery where I work and have one of the metallurgists there look at it. They will be able to tell us what the failure mechanism was.

Ok, well as luck would have it, my comp 918's arrived on my door step last night, as I found out about all this, this morning. Im kinda lost as to what I should do. the plastic has been taken off the box, so I highly doubt thunder racing would take'em back for a refund. Im considering just saying to hell with the comps and get another set. Any suggestions?

With all these issues and problems concerning the 918s, I'm sure Angie and company at Thunder Racing would understand your concerns and give you an appropriate replacement.

I got my replacement 918 from them after mine broke, so they know about some of the recent breaks. Jason works there so i know he's filled them in on the breaks.
Not to make an argument here, BUT, all this listed criteria was supposed to be taken into account at the design / manufacturing time?!
*aggressive lobes (they grind the cams and should test them on there worst case scenario XR-E and what have you.)

I'm not sure what comp has told other people, but the sheet I have says for their "more agressive" XE-R lobes:
increased spring loads will be required. COMP Cams 977-16 valve springs and COMP Cams 875-16 Pro Magnum hydraulic roller lifters are strongly recommended.
This was discussed when the XE-R lobes first came out and then people to decided the 918s were adequate.
BTW, I'm not here to support COMP. To me it sounds like a bad batch of springs. However, I point this out to those in the market for a cam now who may have forgotten, or been unaware of, the debate over using 918s with XE-R lobes.
