Default T1 vs. TR 220ish

I just ordered my ASCD SS hood and mac midlengths and am ready to order my cam. Other than the items i just listed i have descreened and ported my MAF, Added a K&N filter, and added a flowmaster catback system. I have heard some very good things about the T1 cam and also about the TR 220-224 cams. My vehicle is a daily driven 99 z28 with 37k miles on it. I have about 1500 left to pay for the cam and items needed in association with it. Which should i get, the T1 or the TR 220 or 224 cam. I am considering ordering an aftermarket oil pump and timing chain as well. Also... will these cams require tuning on an A4 vehicle. I know tuning would give them their max potential but if they would run nearly as good with just say .... a MAF translator and HPP (which will be bought as part of that $1500 if necessary). I am very new to modification to a OBD2 vehicle, but have been told they will "relearn" to a point. More or less im asking what i need to make a cam setup work without any problems. Thanks in advance for the advise.

with a A4 you should go with a B1 or TR224/114 and you should get tuning done and you will love these cams <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

...and change the "Blowmaster" catback.

I agree with the above advice.

B1, C1, C2, TR220,...All sound good for an A4 Car from what I have read. You may also want to check out one of LG's cams (they have a special now) (brobably not the G5 for an A4). Here is a thread full of other stuff you will want to replace while you are at it.

A B1 will work fine with stock tuning.

B1, C1, T1... all this is very confusing to me as far as how they differ. If possible, i would like to avoid tuning untill i get my heads done in a year-year and a half. I live in southern indiana and i dont know of anywhere around that could tune it right. I looked into superchips tuning but i dont want to have to send my computer in for an extended period of time like that. $1200-1500 is all i can spend on the cam swap right now and a $400 custom tune would be a big chunk. On one of the other posts about the T1 there was a guy with an A4 running stock tuning with mac headers ... which is exactly what im going to have. Do you guys with stock tuning have any issues... or is it just the fact athat you know you could gain a few HP with tuning? Sorry for all the questions but im on a limited budget and want to get it done right.

T1 with stock tuning and A4 (now A3) here. a bit of messing with this and that but it works after a little work. if you want real ease of tuning, just go with a slightly newer cam profile like the TR220 on a 114 or even a TR224. I can't imagine the TR220 being difficult to idle at all. the old lunati T1s had way too much advertised duration and the cam thought it was alot bigger than it was so the idle was tougher. any old off the shelf new comp cam 220-224 duration on a 114 LSA should would with out much convincing

there is a shop in anderson, indiana that does tuning with LS1 edit. and I am pretty sure Extreme Motorsports in Bloomington does it too. call and ask for Darren.

99-z-28,

Tuning will not only give you more hp, but more importantly for you, it will help your driveability (idle characteristics with and without accessories running--A/C confuses the computer with aggressive cam profiles). As for shops, I don't know how close you are, but Lingenfelter is in Decatur IN (middle of IN). They will tune it properly. Plus, they've also got a couple of cams that will provide some sike power. If you give them a call, I'm sure they'll be happy to help you out 260.724.2552. They'll also be able to setup a great set of heads that will compliment your cam. When getting the most out of your setup it's very important to select a cam that works with the flow characteristics of your heads. It might save you some money down the road (you won't have to swap out your cam next year when you do heads if you pick the right one now).

Im very torn between the T1, TR220, and TR224. If i could get by with it, i would get the TR224 but my tuning will be limited to EFI Live and a MAF Translator. I want a nice little lope so bad, almost even more so than the power that comes with it. Would EFI Live/Autotap and a MAF translator be sufficient to tune any of these cams i mentioned ?

The TR220 cam will have the best drivability and provides most of the gain of the 224. If you want more lope, get the TR 224 cam on a 112 LSA.

Buy edit. Don't buy a MAFT & HPP3; sell them for the payment on edit. Edit gives you tremendous control over your car, especially the tranny.
