Thanks for the link. They seem to list the LS1/LS6 block as the same part #. I thought they where different blocks??

Thank you Bob2of3 for the link and yes DaveSchott you are correct, the LS1 and LS6 do use the same block now.

Part number 12561166 is a brand new virgin block straight from General Motors therefore the price is obiviously going to be more than some other blocks you might find.

The block I got ends in a 8. I know its an LS6 block because of some specific machining marks. Plus its got larger windows at the bottom of the bore.

I think I'll call the dealer tomorrow and have them run the number.

Just bought an LS6 block from Valvegod, get in touch with him if you need a block. I think several of the boards owners got their blocks from him too.

Keep in mind that Valvegod (Shaun C) had a hard time getting stuff like brand new LS6 stuff... I was looking at used LS6 takeoff heads from Valvegod but felt that it was too risky to use them for my 12:1 422ci motor.

But I did buy a 5.3 new truck alternator from him and it's on my car.
