port heads or buy them
well - this is the deal i- a friend at work has a set of ls6 heads -- and was going to give them to me to port and do the valve job and so so -- and when i take my heads off my car-- ( when doing the cam and heads ) i got to give him my ls6 heads/....
so my question is-- how much porting do i have to do to see any power--- ( i was just planning on cleaning up all the runners and polishing the bowls -- and taking out the sharp edges in them)
just doing that - will i see any kinda power -- or should i just buy the set of heads from Texas speed.?
because there cnc ls6 heads say they make 50 horses.. can this be true. just a set of the cnc heads give 50?
well if i do it myself-- i can save the money and buy somthing else that im going to need...
how many of you are running the ported ls6 heads and what kinda power with cam are yall putting down?

i just finished installing a set of patriot 243 heads on my car, and it is a heck-of-alot of work to do just to put a cleaned up set on. i would most definately have them CNCed by a big name shop.
i don't have any dyno numbers yet, but i will next tuesday.

You wont see near 50 HP from home porting because the TSP's will be CNC'ed (exact match on all ports) plus the valve job...My guess would be maybe and extra 20-30 CFM over stock ?

The key here is how much money do you want to spend? You're comparing the extra set of heads that are free (exchange) and only going to cost about $100-300 to get ported etc. Versus set of cnc ported heads that cost over $1000. You have three choices to choose from.
1. Exchange $100-300
2. CNC ported castings $1000
3. Aftermarket CNC heads $2000+
It's up to you how much you want to spend.

If you don't take the heads give them to me I could always use another set of LS6 heads. I'd take the ones you can get free and have a porter do a valve job, clean up the runners and some bowl work. Probably the best price/power combo imo.

I beleive I remeber seeing the PP website claiming 50HP as well, the new castings from PP also cost around the same as PRC's only the PP's come with their gold springs included in the price.
