Default Engine smoking horribly. Help.

I purchased an engine from another forum member which had 12,000 miles on it. Well I fired it up for the first time yesterday and it smokes horribly out of the valve cover breathers. Not like choo-choo train smoke but constant smoke stack white/blue smoke. I figured it would stop as the rings resat them selves but it just stayed constant. I drove it for about a mile with the hood off and the car looked like it was on fire. It also bubbled oil out of both breathers to the point where I had to pull over and dry it up just to get home.

What, if any thing, can I do to make it stop? Let it run some more and change the oil. Run the stock PCV system? Although I don't want all that oil and smoke going through my engine. No smoke comes out the exhaust so I know it isn't valve seals or valves. It can only be the rings. I don't know what to do? I will even try the compression restoreing engine crap from Auto Zone if I have to. I think today I will run a compression test and leak down test and see what I get. The cylinder walls didn't look good but they didn't look all that bad either when I put it in. Actually my 30,000 mile engine that came out had more cross hatching left than this engine.

I just put all this time, effort and money into getting this thing running to the detrament of time spent with my family to only have to tear it out, spend more money and put it all back together. If I can avoid all of that I will. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do a leak down test after you warm it up. That will tell you where your problem lies. My bet would be worn rings/cylinder walls if its smoking out the breather really bad.

That was the first plan of action along with a compression test. Thanks.

Just skip the compresion test and do the leak down.

My daughter was taking a nap so I couldn't fire up the air compressor. I just got done doing a compression test. Here were the results. On the drivers side from one to four.
1=226, 2=130, 3=129, 4=120. Passanger side five to eight. 5=225, 6=225, 7=230, 8=230. So cylinder 2-4 are shot. I will do a leak down next but I don't really see a reason to now. The cylinders are bad and I will have to tear the whole thing out again and have it honed and re-ringed. So there is another month at least of my life with out the car. I think I am just going to do a 383 or somthing. The good news is I talked with the seller and I am getting a partial refund to recover the repairs. I guess that is all I could hope for.

I don't understand. What is a Bad Jackson Rod? Sorry for my ignorance.

I did a leak down test on two of the better low cylinders and there was about 25% leak down. I didn't do the last really bad cylinder but I would guess 35% or more given the compression readings.

From what I know it came out of an 05 CTSV and sat as a back up motor. Then changed hands as a back up motor and then I got it.

Tell me about it. I would rather stab my self in the arm right now than dig back in there and take every thing out and back in again.
