Default New inexpensive heads now need a cam.

I could get some unused PRC LS6 stage 1 heads for ~1000. Unforunately the heads have already been milled .03. I would also be getting a .04 cometic and new pushrods and lifters.
I had been planning to get a 228/232 lsk lobed cam and get around a 112 or 110 LSA, nothing to crazy as this is a daily driver and has to have good manners. The problem is I can only get 91 octane around here but I am at 4500 feet. If I were to get these heads I would have to get a higher LSA to keep the DCR at a decent level, proly something around a 114 -116 with an adjustable timing chain so I can advance it a little and back it off if necessary. This may not be all bad though since I do not want to have a lope. Also I am looking to shift at ~6500 or less at the track.
I guess I'm just looking for your thought on whether or not this seems like a good plan and what I would be loosing or gaining by going with a higher LSA cam. What LSA should I get and how much advance should I start with? Should I just forget about buying these heads and save some more money?

Dude, I just picked up some < 100 mile '07 243's off a C6 for $350, assembled....save the money, pick some up like I did and do some porting of your own and use the rest for things like LT's, oil pump, timing chain, gaskets, etc.

Get the heads. Compression is your friend, especially at 4500 ft.. At high altitude, you can't fill the cylinder as well as at sea level, so you won't be building as much cylinder pressure either. That's one of the reasons why high altitude markets don't have anything better than 91 octane. They don't need it.

Shoot for around 8.5:1 DCR for 91 octane. Chose the intake valve closing point that is appropriate to bring you the proper DCR and rpm range you're desiring. You shouldn't shy away from the 227/231 LSK cam if that's what you want. Play around with the DCR calculator to get the valve events that suit your needs. But again, high altitude markets really respond to high static compression heads.

Thanks for the help.
If I go for the 227/231 should I just use play with the LSA and advance to get the correct DCR? If I want to be shifting ~6500 RPMs what LSA should I use with this cam?
