short block: block, crank, rods, all misc bearings, pins etc....and cam and pistons assembled into the block

long block : same as above but with heads and intake, and sometimes water pump or others.....

Sometimes short blocks don't have cam or timing chain and sprockets.

GM calls them "partial engine assemblies".

For further confusion, there are "short deck height" and "tall deck height" SBC blocks (older generation). That's the distance from the crank centerline to the head surface of the block.

What wot247 said is correct for the question.
