Default What would be the max horsepower out of a 346ci Solid Roller?

Someone was telling me I could get 470rwhp out of a 346ci solid roller.. I know Gordon S. put down 460rwhp with his 346ci solid roller setup and 4.56 gears. What about a similar setup with 4.10's? Another quick question... Can I stay below 7500rpm and still make good power?

Hi Vince. How ya been? Are you trying to kill all the streeability in your car? Geez, why not save the $$$ and go with a stroker motor? Yes you can probably get 470rwhp with a solid roller, but the low speed torque is gonna suffer. Solid roller cams are not going to make much more peak torque much less torque under the peak. One things for sure with a solid roller, you will be in for some tuning. Get the hell out of the way at the track though.......
Keep us posted,
Richard

I was told you will have more mid range torque and more peak hp.470hp should be obtainable though.

What would need to be done to reach such numbers? How would the driveability be on such a setup. Not daily driver say a weekend warrior/cruiser.

I've read of a guy on here that hit round 460+ rwhp with his 346 solid roller.

Well George Coffey (GeorgeC) is running a setup like that and going 10.20s with so-so tuning right now. I'd think that's got to be in the upper 400s for sure.

George C is also 382 ci all bore with high comp
Vince I think you need a stroker setup
383 ci and around 450RWHP/450RWTQ
Cheers,
Chris

My bad Chris....I guess he was going to stay stock cid, but after some issues, he decided to increase his cid.

Vince, the LS1 aftermarket has not started slowing down yet. Plans are definately fun to make but who knows what will be available in a years time? I think the best advice would be to enjoy your current setup and continue to watch the LS1 platform evolve

Good luck in your decision!

Vince in my opinion, if you raise your compression as high as possible and than cam around 250* duration on a 112* LSA with as much lift as possible you can build that kind of power with the heads you have.Gear it for lack of low end torque and you will have driveability with real nice power! You should be able to make high 400's rwhp with a 7500 shift point, solid rollers with proper spring and Jesel Rockers to keep all the reliability you need. Eventually i am planning something similar to what im stating here. Good Luck.

Solid roller, with Jesel valetrain you wouldnt have much maintenance as far as lash adjustments.

if you are going to make a solid roller 346, why not just make it a full out race car?

With a nice set of LS6 heads and a ported holley or sheetmetal intake feeding the heads and a powerband from 6000-8000 in a light car with a lot of gear you could go 9s on motor

I know someone who built a 355" sbc with a great set of heads/cam/carb/intake combo and with super high compression (sprint car application i think it was 14:1) the car made 610hp at the crank on gasoline.

With the better design of the LSX heads...you should be able to do the same IMO.

Vince, if you want to beat everything for the next 10 years you will need to go BIG cubes and SOLID. I would rather go big and not have to spin the motor as high then stay stock ci and spin it to the moon. Not to mention staying pump gas friendly.

Vince, the more things change, the more they stay the same. I remember wanting the same thing back when I was in college.......then it was a '69 Firebird.
If you want to beat everything for the next ten years, bolt on a couple of turbos. If you don't want to go with the turbo route, bolt on an ATI Procharger. The Corvette guys I know are barfing out some serious power on stock bottom ends. Even with stock heads they haul ****.......
Good luck in what ever you decide,
Richard

I am just checking all options.. I still have to try my new cam I am just time limited on the install. I could drop the new cam in this week, but I lost a friend over the weekend and all of my other friends are going to be preoccupied this week to take me to Norris Motorsports to drop my car off. So many options to choose from out there.. I have already dropped quite a bit in this setup. I really do not want to waste the shortblock, but who knows. Everyone has given me some nice options.. The cheapest option I was given was to buy a better fuel pump and hit my forged shortblock with a 150 shot and leave her alone.. The next option was to try another set of heads.. The next option was to go SC or Turbo. That requires new H/C and FI setup.. The next option was to go solid roller on my current setup which would not cost that much and would be a helluva track car, but I was told the streetability would suffer. I find that hard to believe though.. Anyway, all bore or stroker was next. That would require me selling my current shortblock to pay for some monster engine, because I would not go below a 396ci.. All options require $$$$'s. I am not too concerned about the money really. This project is still a year away.. The main criteria is a reliable and streetable car with enough power to not have to worry about ANY production car for the next 10 years..
